Worst movie that I've ever started watching at home: Pulp Fiction. People keep saying this is such a great movie. If you have insomnia, Pulp Fiction will cure it fast or give you a headache trying.
Worst movie that I've ever walked out on: School Daze, when I was in college. To make it even worse, it was a dollar movie. Haven't really given Spike Lee a chance with anything else, although I do have Malcolm X on DVD and plan to watch it.
Worst movie I've been to with my wife: A Perfect Murder. Perfectly boring. Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow are good thespians, just not good together.
Worst movies that I'd actually sit down and watch: Virtually any disaster movie, including Armageddon, Deep Impact, Meteor, all four Airport movies, The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno and Earthquake. I don't count Titanic among this list, only because I don't consider it a disaster movie. Celine Dion is not the modern-day Maureen McGovern, who scored two hit songs in disaster movies.

I'm surprised no one seems to have mentioned Mulholland Drive. What the hell was that all about!! and more recently The Recruit. In the end I didn't know who was or wasn't working for who - hey by the end of the film, I didn't even care!!

Has anyone else suffered through Species II? A few friends of mine (guys who, I suspect, expected some nakedness from Natasha what's-her-name) dragged me to see it when it came out, and I came out feeling terribly depressed about having spent two hours of my life on THAT. I could have watched my toenails grow. Or paint dry. Or anything else equally entertaining. Human Highway was also one huge waste of time.

I'd say "Dune" for drama and "There's Something About Mary" for comedy.
My friends and I rented "Dune" about a dozen times to try and watch it. Out of sheer boredom we'd be asleep by the time the one evil guy was getting his boils lanced.
And for "There's Something About Mary": we had some rather urbane friends recommend it. Both my wife and I thought it was a bore. Only the scene in the southern jail brought any kind of laughs from us. For taking my wife there (and sitting through the whole thing thinking "This has got to get better"), she got to choose the next 10 movies.

Has anyone mentioned "Superfuzz". It had Ernestine Borgnine in it and it was terrible. Did anyone else hear of it?

The worst movie I've seen in a while is a little number called "Full Will". Even the title is bad. The premise has been done to death, too, it's about a woman who is comically haunted by her mother's ghost who only she can see. Oh, how original.
I'm not very picky about acting, but the lead was awful. Hammy, theatrical, and wacky-zany-unfunny. I got the feeling that every other scene the director said, "OK, now laugh for no reason! Louder! HAHAHA! Like that. Open your mouth wider! Yessssssss!"
Terrible thick slab of Velveeta cheesy ending, stupid, stupid, stupid. I watched it all the way through out of morbid curiousity. I dislike montages and pointless trippiness. Sure enough, it had a trippy pointless montage.. and the horrible stupid secret flashback... and a resolution involving a punch on the jaw.
Most every movie has something good about it, though, and "Full Will" was very well lit, which had the effect of putting a party hat on a dead toad.

Finding Nemo...they say it's supposed to be "for all ages" (Barney voice here). It seems to me that it's for 7 and under. My sister, who is 7 didn't even like it.

Tomcats.
Some friends dragged me to see it. It was so bad I actually closed my eyes and tried to sleep.

Well, it really didn't have a good plotline. Nothing's really special about having to find your fish-son.

I haven't seen "Finding Nemo" yet - but plan to soon. I just haven't had time, yet.
However, if this one is like the others that Pixar does, like "Monsters Inc", it's very much geared towards adults as well as kids. Pixar is wonderful about putting in little "inside jokes" that adults immediately catch that the kids may not. For instance, in "M. Inc", they did the little "Armour Hot Dog joke" that the kids around me didn't get, but we adults found funny.
Pixar is very clever in that way. This is why so many adults do go see their films.

I think that people who like the Titanic movie deserve to be brought outback and shot. Same for "Blare Witch". :p [color:green] [/color] [image]

Just in terms of classification, I find this excellent thread breaking into what seems to be two separate ones, both probably worthy of further investigation.
One seems to be movies without any ambitions to greatness that just stink to high heaven. Here I was happy to note that Rogue had named "Caddyshack", a lowbrow supposed 'comedy' with exactly one funny line in it, with all the nuance and subtlety of a blow in the head from Mike Tyson.
Others, however, have pointed up films that have at least artistic pretensions... and yet seem to rot all the more because they fail so miserably to live up to them. In this category (I think) can be placed films like "The Piano" and some others discussed above.
Should we have a separate thread for "Most Irritatingly Pretentious Films of All Time"?

The worst: AI: Artifical Intelligence. It had nice special effects, but other than that, I can't believe I actually sat for almost three hours for that awful piece.

Not much like Toy Story or Monsters Inc. I'd say Monsters Inc. is probably the best movie they've made so much. I think that Finding Nemo doesn't have as good animation are Monsters Inc or Toy Story.

In the low brow vein, I rented a movie I had never heard of, "Who is Cletis Tout?", because the movie featured some very prominent actors ie Richard Dreyfuss, Christian Slater, and Tim Allen. Today, I wish I still had not heard of it; the plot was, well, stupid for lack of a better word and the acting, esp Tim Allen, was of the backyard variety. I guess the "straight to video" distribution should have provided a clue.

This is a very difficult question to answer because if your watching a film on TV and its just bad you change the channel. If your at the flicks and it's bad enough you can walk out (muttering about wasted money). To actually watch a really bad film all the way to the end there has to be something more to it. It has to almost hypnotise you with its awfulness. You could think of it as being like a bunny in the headlights of a juggernaut or a small animal held in terror by the eyes of a snake. There are not many films which get into this category.
'Independence Day' is an excellent choice, I watched avidly all the way to the credits thinking this can't get any worse only to be proved wrong again and again ... and again and again. 'Che!' was nearly as bad as 'Independence Day' and had the added bonus that the language used was so flowery as to be impenetrable. The 70s soft porn film 'Emanuelle was also a triumph of suspenseful awfulness but I think the first prize would have to go to that masterpiece of 80s power-patriotism and stupidity 'Red Dawn'.
However, I suspect that there is a special place in Hell reserved just for viewing 'Carry On' Films. I did not include them in the list above because they do not hold you enraptured by their awfulness, they are just bad. No that's wrong they are really, really bad. Under normal circumstances I would just walk out or turn them off. Unfortunately for me my Ex. was a connoisseur of the genre, she had, I think, every single one of the series on disk. I have seen most dozens of times! I can recite great chunks of the script from some of them! I LOATH them. Fair go, I actually like 'Carry On Cruising' and 'Carry On Camping' a trial in itself contains two of the best smutty lines of all time "It has to be the bull" and "Tent up first, bunk up later". Other than that though the series is an ocean of dross!
