XP Pro. The general advice at the time went something like: "I don't know why you want to upgrade to XP but at least get the Pro version if you're going to", so I did . A few years experience has proved that the 'Home' version would have been quite adequate for my needs. I've ended up turning off some of the extra features that XP Pro has.

XP here at home, 2000 at work. No clue why work still uses 2000... They'll probably finally upgrade to XP when we finally get all our homes upgraded to Vista!

Even then, they may not. It all depends on the company and how much they are willing to spend to upgrade. If the powers that be feel 2000 is successful enough, they will stay with 2000 even after Vista launches. As far as I know, XP and 2000 are nothing alike, since 2000 runs more on old WinNT technologies, and XP/Me/98 all ran on Win95 technologies.

I use XP and like it.

You're lucky. Our work still runs NT 4.0

Windows 2000 and Windows XP are both NT based. NT systems don't use DOS but there is some support for running DOS programs (see the 1st paragraph of this page). DOS is running behind the interface of Windows 95/98/98SE/ME. I think Windows XP can be thought of as Windows 2000 with some whistles and bells added.

Windows XP for me too. I didn't know I had much choice in the matter.

This site lists a number of other operating systems. Linux and Mac both have large following.
