I'd like to know.

Why do you all think that the movies made today just aren't as good.
At least, that's how I feel.
I haven't gone to the theaters to see a movie since "The Musketeer".

By good, I mean entertaining. It doesn't have to be an Oscar movie. A good movie can be silly and dumb, yet be very entertaining.

However, I do have the home theater system going on in my living room. It's pretty nifty. After watching the lobby scene during "The Matrix", I have to check myself for bullet holes.

I agree with you, LA. A lot of movies made today seem to be either attempts to step on the fame of earlier movies (like everything in the teen movie genre after Scream, or the summer of Volcano and Dante's Peak) or cheap attempts at thrillers.

IMHO, I can't decide which was rock bottom, Scary Movie or The Blair Witch Project. They were both pretty horrible.

But there are always diamonds in the rough. I liked The Matrix and, for the most part, Gladiator.

I think scriptwriters, directors, etc. in Hollywood have gotten lazy as the powers to discern quality from crap have decreased amongst the American (and beyond) public. When movies like "Scary Movie" can make over 100 million at the box office, while movies like Quills make a fraction of that amount, where is the incentive to create a high quality peace of film work?

As long as the consumer continues to eat up the crap being spewed by Hollywood producers, the crudfest will continue. I haven't been to the movie theater for a movie since Gladiator (May 2000) and have no plans to return unless I see a marked improvement in the quality of the average film. Luckily, video stores allow us to be very selective and at a much lower cost. I guess I'll be staying home for a while!

My brother has that exact same attitude Jazz.
Must be a northern Cali thing. He lives in Oakland.

I went to see 'Monsters, Inc.' yesterday
Very entertaining.
Oh, and the Star Wars Episode II trailer was on it.
Pretty cool.

What is it about people and The Blair Witch Project on this site? Anyone I know who's seen it loves it, but on here it's not just bad, it's the lowest of the low. Some people even suggesting it's the worst film ever made! Come on now!

Anyway, "Amelie's" a good film and "The Man Who Wasn't there", and that's just what's in the cinema now. It's not as bad as all that!

There is a rather large number of anti-blair people here, aren't there?

I went to see it originally with some friends, and I think we were split 50/50 on whether or not we liked it. (I didn't, obviously.)

I think it's one of those movies that you either love or hate.
