Peter Boyle has recently died at 71. He is best-known as the Monster in "Young Frankenstein" and as the father in the long-running sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond". He also starred in such films as "Taxi Driver", "Swashbuckler", "F.I.S.T." and "The Shadow", where he played another cabbie, Moe Shrevnitz.

I just heard that news, too - very sad. I really noticed him first in an old movie called "Joe" (not many remember the film, I guess) and had paid attention thereafter. I, personally, wasn't a huge fan of "Raymond" but I was real glad to see he got a solid and lucrative part at the end of his career. RIP. Another irreplaceable "second banana", I'm hearing. Second to none is what I think.

How sad! In reading the articles about him, I realize that there was a lot more to him than I could ever have imagined. Being a little younger, I remember him best in Young Frankenstein, which was actually released two years before I was born, but is one of my favorite movies. But I didn't now he was in Second City. I would never have guessed that John Lennon was the best man at his wedding. There are obviously dimensions upon dimensions I never would have guessed.

I was saddened to hear about the death of Peter Boyle. I loved him in "Young Frankenstein", "Taxi Driver" and "Monster's Ball". He, and Patricia Heaton were the only two reasons why I ever even bothered watching "Everybody Loves Raymond".

I first saw him way way back in "Joe" - the movie has not aged that well, but his performance was wonderful.
