At one time, we had a thread about our favorite tv commercials. I think it's time to get another one going!

Describe your favorite commercial. (And, for the big question, do you just remember the ad, or does it really make you think of the product when you see it?!)

And, for those of you with commercials that you don't particularly enjoy, see this thread to tell us about them!

One that I like is the Marriott one where Alice Cooper comes up to the man mowing the lawn. He asks if the man has taken his family on a vacation lately. "You don't want your kids to grow up to be weirdos, do you?"

I love the last part - he's skipping rope and saying "My name is Alice. I live in a palace...."

Very clever!

There's also a kitty litter one that I like. Two kittens are discussing the new crystals in their litter. One of says that they are diamonds in there! The other one (clearly, a young one) asks what a diamond is. Then, a persian sitting on top of the cabinet looks down her nose to explain that they are not diamonds. They are crystals that take away odor. "And, that is the only reason I agreed to live with the likes of you." Then, the two little kitties run off, while the littlest one says, "Whatever!"

i like the one for Fuji film where the asian couple have just had a baby and then the baby pulls out a camera and says "say Fuji". It's getting a little worn now as it's on every ad break but, gosh, i laughed when I first saw it!

I like an earlier Master Card Commercial that was aired after Randy Johnson was first traded to the Diamondbacks. It said, "I'm known as Randy Johnson the pitcher, this year I want to be known as Randy Johnson the hitter (as he played in the American Baseball League he was not required to bat, when traded to a National Basebal League team, he has to bat). The screen then showed his batting average at .005 which is NOT good by baseball standards, the it showed the caption: Batting Coach and Practice: Priceless-For everything else there's Master Card.

Another favorite is the MCI commercial with Michael Jordan and Tweety talking about if Tweety is related to Larry Byrd. Michael Jordan says, "Just because your name is Tweety Bird and his name is larry Byrd doesn't mean you are related." Tweety then replies, "I don't know, we wook an awful lot awike."

The Tweety one is cute, M! I remember it!

There's a commercial out right now (I'm forgetting exactly what it's for) where a family is sitting at the dinner table talking about where they want to go on vacation. The father wants to go on a fishing trip. The grandmother wants to go somewhere else. The girl wants to go somewhere totally different. The mother wants to go somewhere else, still. It kind of escalates until everyone's talking at once. Finally, the baby says, "Excuse me! Why don't we go to Chicago? I hear it's a 'toddler town'!"

I love that one!

Anyone remember the one for Friskies with the chorus line of cats singing yum yum yum yum? It's probably from the sixties!
Seriously cute.

Lysol toilet bowl cleaner, it is all so fresh?
(My sister does a French maid routine on this one.)

I typically don't like car commercials. As far as I'm concerned, they are probably the most boring of all ads on tv. But, I did see one the other day that I thought was funny.

A guy is talking to his shrink about his new car. When he mentions the price, she says, in a bored voice, "So, you feel guilty about paying so little for the car?" He says, "No." Everything he tells her about the car, she says something "psychological" sounding, and he replies that it isn't a problem with him. Finally, she says something like, "So, why are you here telling me about all of this?" And, he says, "I'm telling everyone!" and walks out. As he's getting to his car in the garage, he's pulling over another person there to tell them about his new car.

It's one of the few car commercials that caught my eye and held it for the entire time. That's rare for those ads!

(Why are car commercials so boring, anyway?)

Most recently, I like the soup commercial where the young boy is eating soup with his friend while his mother is in the room with them and then she leaves and the friend comments on how 'hot' his friends mom is. It's cute.

There was recently a series of ads on for Dove chocolate, getting away from myth that it's only women that sit around and eat chocolate. They had 3-4 men talking football and cars stc, then they ate the choc and started talking about how well a new haircut suited one of the group, or how to keep fingernails from splitting and so on. I liked them.

Years ago when I was in Britain, there was one for a non-alcoholic beer (so what's the point, I ask??) but they had Billy Connolly saying the "I'm not a pheasent plucker I'm a pheasent plucker's son, I'm only plucking pheasents, till the pheasent plucker comes" tounge twister... and then would say "You can't do that with alcholic beer" (or something like that) Very clever.

An automobile one.

Can't even remember what make and model it was advertising. Obviously 'worked like a dream'!

A midwest 'diner', the waiter is sweeping up. Every now and again, the waiter shouts......'Get uuuuuuuu.....'.

This goes on for about 3 or 4 days. Strangely, at the same time every day. (pointed out by the director panning to the clock).

On the fifth day, it all becomes clear.
Cut to the car.........James Brown is on the car's CD player, singing 'Sex Machine'. Various cuts to the car, the diner, the car, the diner..etc.

It transpires, the car is going so fast, that the only lyrics the waiter hears are 'Get uuuuuuuu.....'

I've only seen it once, in a British cinema. The whole of the cinema, up until the punchline, were looking at each other and scratching thier heads, saying 'what the hell's this all about?' After the punchline, everyone (and I mean, everyone) burst out laughing!

I wouldn't buy the car, but would love to know what it was?

My favourite commercial is the one for Geico where the dog laughs about how much his owner is paying for car insurance. It's funny!

In addition to what I just said, I saw this other funny commercial. It was for Arm and Hammer cat litter and it had this animated cat called Super Cat. Anyone else seen this commercial?

There has been an ad on here recently telling people not to get drunk and go to sleep on the roads so you they get run over ... I laughed when I first saw it but really it's pretty sad ... this must have happened a bit for them to start making ads about it, plus if you were the type going to go to sleep on the road after a few drinks I don't think that the ads would stop you.

Favourite Adverts hmmmmmm *strokes fake beard*. Well being from the UK some of you wont have a clue what i'm talking about but heres my 2 pence worth none the less.

There are a few adverts from when i was a kid that stick out in my mind. First is Kiaora juice drink (Too orangey for crows, its just for me and by dog) as the slogan went. The Um Bongo one was also great.

Theres an advert currently running in the UK for Nescafe coffee in which this black guy drive around in his car that has a huge afro on the roof. Its just so daft!

All the Visa check card commercials.
Especially the one w/the dad and the little girl buying 2 rabbits. The clerk has to call and make sure the man's check is good, and the rabbits start... um... doing what rabbits do..."love is in the air" is playing, and by the time the check has cleared, there are like 200 rabbits in the store!! I just love that one.
And my gosh who could ever forget "Where's the Beef?"

A recent TV ad I've come to like is the one for AT&T Broadband Internet with the clever computer animation of the moving crayon drawings. This "crayon man" uses a blue Crayola (I think!) to win over this foxy girl. I love it! tjoeb};>

Bringing this up again, since we've had the Geico/gecko commercial discussion in the I Need An Answer Forum. I thought it might be fun to revisit this thread!

Anyone from the UK and particulary Scotland will know what I'm talking about here. It's the Tennants ad featuring the pints with arms and legs going on about "There's been a murder" ala Taggart. I particularly like the one with the cans.

Three great ones come to mind.

The first is the peanut butter commercial that shows a guy who is the curator of a Civil War museum taking a large mouthful of peanut butter when the phone rings. It's a radio station calling to offer the listener $1000 if they can come up with the name of the Union general who marched through Georgia. The guy confidently smiles and answers, "Denerel Thermum." The peanut butter is stuck to his tongue and the roof of his mouth. He begins to panic. "I thaid, Denerel Thermum." The radio guy says, "No, that's not right. You have 10 seconds left." The poor guy is sweating profusely, and keeps saying, "Denerel Thermum!" until the radio guy hangs up. He couldn't quite say 'General Sherman.'

The second one is the middle aged rather paunchy guy dressed as the Tooth Fairy, complete with a rather soiled pink tutu, lopsided wings and star-tipped wand who speaks in a rather raspy baratone about the product he's pushing. I don't remember the product; I'm too busy laughing.

The third one is the Russian fashion show with the middle aged rather fat model dressed in a drab, shapeless dress who, when 'swim wear' is announced, comes out carrying a beach ball, For 'evening wear,' she's carrying a flash light, and so on. This one gets me every time.

My favorite is the Orkin commercial that starts out with a woman in a bathtub taking a relaxing bath. Suddenly a cockroach starts running all over the T. V. screen. The first time I saw this commercial I screamed and took my shoe off to smash the cockroach! I laughed so hard when the Orkin man came on with the bugspray and I realized I'd been had. I'll bet this happened to many others too!
