Back in 1980 I came across phone in radio, then limited to a few hours per night and made my first call to Mike Dickin, who I just discovered was 37 at the time. He disappeared for some years and returned on a national station, and though I rarely called him over the years like come presenters he was always one of the most direct and sensible presenters and was fair with all the callers.
On Monday night he was involved in a car crash which killed him at the age of 63. Any British listeners (plus web listeners more recently) will be familiar with his 25 plus years of broadcasting and now his voice will never be heard in live conversation again. There are many more heavyweights but he was one of the best and being my first call had a unique place in my memory. Anyone else remember him as I do or differently?

It's a shame. I listened to him quite a lot, until I "moved radio stations". RIP
