I'm a bad Potter fan. I got the last two books on the day they were released - found the books after the series began - and when I collected them from the shop, the first thing I did was immediately go to the back, and quickly read the last few pages - preparing myself for any deaths. But this time I am determained to read it normally - even if I have to staple or sellatape the back pages together, I shall try not to peep at the ending!

US version

UK children's version

UK adult's version

So...any theories? Talk amongst yourselves...

I'm absolutely loving the cover art!!
I am a member of a Harry Potter site (even help to Moderate there! ) and I love the adult cover hardback edition - probably because I have ordered it already!
The rest of them are so so detailed - such a lot to take in. I am sure Rowling will not disappoint!

Does anyone else think that the initials are for Regulus A. Black? We know that he was killed either by Voldemort or on Voldemort's orders, so that could be why is because he found out about the horcruxes.

I usually read the last couple of pages first when I read a book for the first time.

I won't peep at the end, I never do, one of my daughters will..she always does..and my husband and mischievous 18 yr old son will read it faster than I will and I'll have to avoid the net and walk around with earmuffs till I've read it, just kidding.
Does anyone watch Dr. Who? Potter references in the Shakespeare story were just too funny, esp. since now Dr Who just happens to be played by the same gentleman (David Tennant) who played Barty Crouch Junior.

That sounds like a waste of time and money to me, and a nice way to ruin the effect the books have on you. Do you also skip to the end of movies before you watch them?

I can't wait for the final book, and have also pre-ordered it. It'll be sad to say goodbye to the series, as the journey has been exciting.

Just wondering - will anyone peep at the end before finishing the book?!

I have a such a bad habit of doing that! But I don't actually 'read' the ending, I just read the very last sentence in the book. It's a clever way of gaining security about the absolute outcome without any specific spoilers. Sometimes I find out the outcome, sometimes the last sentence gives no hint at all. I don't plan to even touch the last page when I read 'Deathly Hallows' before its time to though, I wanna read every page in the proper order, from start to finish!

I hate the cover art lol - I like a set of books to match, so why they're releasing the last one with a totally different cover is beyond me.

We are all counting down the days, and dreading the possibilities too. I cant help wondering about Malfoy. He seems to now have been marked for his own by Voldemort - sore left arm etc., and couldn't take his apparition test with the first group, like Harry and Neville. I just cant remember if we are told when he was born. Anybody help me?

I'll be in Mexico over the summer, so I guess I'll have to wait until mid-August to get it... shucks. The new movie might be released while I'm there though, so I'll have a little magic in the heat.

I don't think that Malfoy's birthday was ever mentionned in the books. I'm rereading hp6 for the fifth time and I don't remember any mention of it. I'd think that Malfoy will have an important role in hp7, perhaps that he will help harry against Voldemort, who knows? he proved he had a good part in him when facing Dumbledore at the end of hp6.

Apperently Draco was born on 5th June1980 according to Here . I am sure Draco will play a signifcant part in Book 7. It is obvious though that he is in great danger.

"Shortly before the release of the title, JK Rowling announced that she had considered three different titles for the book.[13][14] The title "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was released to the public from her web site, on 21st December 2006. The particular date has given rise to some interest, due to two prophecies included in Order of the Phoenix, that state "...at the solstice will come a new... and none will come after..."[15] The release of the title has resulted in considerable speculation as to its possible meanings.[16][17][18]

When asked "What does 'Deathly Hallows' mean?" J.K. Rowling responded, "Any clarification of the meaning of 'Hallows' would give away too much of the story - well, it would, wouldn't it? Being the title and all. So I'm afraid I'm not answering."[19] She also declined to say what her two other shortlisted titles had been, at least until after publication. The phrase "Deathly Hallows" was trademarked under the name "Stone Connect (UK) Limited" on December 5, 2006, along with 5 other phrases.[20] It was later denied that any of the others had ever been contenders for the actual title.[21] The word "hallows" had already appeared in phrases registered by representatives of Warner brothers before publication of Half-Blood Prince. "Hallows of Hogwarts" and "Hogwarts Hallows" were registered as trademarks by Seabottom Productions Ltd in 2003-2004, amongst a number of fake titles.[22][23]

Hallow is a word usually used as a verb, meaning "to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate".[24] However, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the word hallows appears as a noun. In modern English, the word is used as a noun in "All Hallows' Day" or "All Saints' Day," which is the day after Halloween or "All Hallows' Eve". Hallows can refer to saints, the relics of saints, the relics of gods, or shrines in which the relics are kept.[25][26] Since the essence of these saints or gods were often considered present at their shrines and in their relics, hallows came to refer to the saints or gods themselves, rather than just their relics or shrines. Hallow is not to be confused with hollow, such as in Godric's Hollow."

I personaly agree with wikipedia. But we'll have to find out and see!

I think it's about the Godric's Hallow and how it all changed or something. and its becoming scary and deathly. most of it should be about the godric's hallow.

That place is Godric's Hollow, not Hallow.

I am not even going to peek and see if the last word is scar. Well, I think I won't.
Half-Blood Prince took me 2 day to read, and then I re-read it to take in all the things I missed. I cannot wait for this book and yet, I hate that it's here already. I do wish they could have spaced the movie and the book out a bit. The world will be on HP overload.

I think Snape will die - I think he has always been on the side of Dumbledore and is in with the Death eaters as a spy. I hope it is just Harry's scar that is a horcrux, so that he will lose the scar, but not die.

I totally agree with you about Snape being on Dumbledore's side the entire time. And, I really hope you are right about the scar and Harry not having to die. Just over a month now and we'll start our journey to the end with Harry and the gang...

I saw an extended trailer for Order of the Phoenix when I was watching Rescue Me Tuesday night. It really looks exciting, and I cannot wait to go see it.

I agree too, Snape's one of the good guys. I really, really hope he doesn't die. The odds aren't in his favour, but after everything he's done, I think he deserves to live. *I've been sending J.K. Rowling 'Let Snape Live!' thoughtwaves for ages * Just have to wait and see...

How about this?
In the Lord Of the Rings when the hobbits say Gollum deserved to die, Gandalf says '---be not too eager to deal out death --even the very wise cannot see all ends.' Then it's Gollum who saves the world.
At the end of The Prisoner of Azkaban Harry regrets saving Pettigrew/Wormtail's life, but Dumbledore says 'He is in your debt. Trust me --- the time may come when you will be very glad you saved Pettigrew's life.'
Do you think this could be a pointer that Pettigrew will save Harry in the Deathly Hallows?

I have often wondered about Pettigrew's debt, he has got to repay it in my opinion. I really can't make up my mind about Snape. He murdered a major character (just in case nobody has read book 6 yet ) so will have to do a lot to redeem himself! Just under 5 weeks to go

I've just finished a re-read of book six, and I'm having doubts about Snape. Perhaps he's a bad guy after all.
The look of anger and loathing on his face when he's about to kill - or is it that he's angry that he's got to do it because of his unbreakable vow? And his victim saying 'Please, Severus' Does it mean 'Please don't' or does it mean 'Please do it'? I think there's a lot more to come about Malfoy - he might even become on of the good guys.
