Books are such a great present, so were there any in your packages under the tree?

Between us we had quite a few
Write home for me - Jean Debelle Lamensdorf
Test Cricket Captains - pretty self explanatory
The Tesla Legacy by Robert G Barrett
There's always more to the story
and It doesn't end there by John Laws
and another one I can't remember about Death Row inmates.

Enough to keep us busy for a while

I now possess 7 copies of 'Hogfather'.
My family know I love books and especially Pratchett. I already had it in both hard- and softback.
None of them has read it yet so guess what they're going to get for their birthdays? Ha ha.

Ahhh I'm a Pratchett fan too - although I haven't read any of his from the last couple years. Still good to pick them up and read though.

(Welcome to the forums, Lost. GREAT part of the world you're from! I worked for a summer yonks ago on Mull, closest I got to you though was Barra. So much to do so little time)

None for me, alas, the family has a hard time keeping up with what I want to read.
The kids got a few - "Inkheart" and some of those teenage disaster novels that my daughter loves so. The boy got several books all along the same theme - one was called "Sneakier Uses for Everyday Things" - all about how to build a car from shoelaces and pocket lint....

Lovely lovely! I am happy:
The Hours-Michael Cunningham
The Shipping Forecast-Annie Proulx
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay- Michael Chabon
Amo Amas Amat -Harry Mount.
A lovely sweet person gave me a book token from Amazon and I ordered a nice new Atlas, (as mine still mentions USSR etc!)
and a calendar of flowers.
What joy!

Oh, yes! I've got great books for Christmas and I'm elated about it.
So now I have:
- Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding (haven't read any of them or seen the movies)
- Colin Dexter's Last Seen Wearing, The Dead of Jericho and The Remorseful Day (great author, great books!)
- The Iron Facade by Catherine Cookson.
You might ask why I used the word "elated"? Because they're in English!!
Thank you, Santa!

No, surprisingly no books for me this year...but the January sales are on their way! I am hoping to purchase the first four Harry Potter books, the hard back editions with the Adult covers. I have got them in the paperback editions, children's versions. I want them to match my other two Harry Potter books (book 5 and 6 are the adult cover)
But I did get a Agatha Christie talking book CD too.

Good selection this year!
'Nul Points' by Tim Moore - a book on those poor Eurovision entrants who failed to get any points at all
'A Man about a Dog', Nigel Rees's book on euphemisms
'Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics' by Deke Leonard. I heard the author reading parts of this on Radio Wales. It's about 'Man', a Welsh group, and their adventures in the music world in the late sixties to early eighties. It made great listening, and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Folks never buy me books (I'm picky with way-off-the-bestseller-list tastes) but I actually got two this year - and I'm looking forward to both. "Ideas: A History of Thought and Invention, From Fire to Freud" by Peter Watson -and- "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama. Yay !

Also received four books of Sudoku puzzles, including one by Will Shortz.

I have certainly not deleted any of your posts. Are you sure you clicked the final posting button? I often forget to, and then wonder where my post went. Maybe you would like to post it again.

I received:

A biography on Lou Gehrig, entitled: Iron Horse.

The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: Bill Bryson

A Walk in the Woods: Bill Bryson

Just finished "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" and I have to say that it was one of the most entertaining reads of the year.

I actually don't like getting books for Christmas. Nor giftcards to bookstores.

I'd much rather just request it from a public library and let other people enjoy the book as well.

People have given up buying me books *blush* because they never know what I have read. I love the library but they dont buy new books fast enough. I love Terry Pratchett and sci fi/ fantasy mostly.

This past Christmas I got Matthew Battles' "Library: An Unquiet History", about, of course, the history of libraries. An apt choice, since I spend a lot of my time reading in them and taking books and other stuff from them (with my library card, natch!)

I am also extremely easy to buy for. If somebody buys me a W. H. Smiths gift-card (vouchur), I am absolutely overjoyed! I can buy whichever takes my fancy!

I gave books this Christmas, and my hubby got some from me AND some from my sister, but I got none. I DID get a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, though. And so did Kit. And so did the hubby. Between us we're looking at almost $100 to spend at the book store. Kit's will be used, this year, to expand her collection of Lloyd Alexander's Taran Wanderer series. We've only got the first two. Hubby and I read the same books for the most part, so some of ours will likely go to the new Goodkind book, and maybe if Jordan's comes out yet this year, then that too. Otherwise, who knows. I might splurge on a knitting book or a couple of knitting magazines.

I should add that I got three books for my birthday at the beginning of December, so I don't feel too slighted.

I got a gift certificate from a friend who also is a avid reader so I was thrilled to pieces.
I shall be going to look and spend when we get the urge to go update our reading lists.
Nothing pleases me more than to get a book I was wanting to add to my collection.
I collect Murder Mysteries and have a few authors I really enjoy.Like about 150 or so. I have to update my author's list one day.

I got two books for Christmas, Marley & Me and Glorious Appearing: The End of Days. I've already read Marley & Me but I can't read Glorious Appearing yet, because I still need to finish Armageddon.
