Firstly, Happy New Year to everybody.

Secondly, I apologise if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I couldn't see a book identification thread or forum. Please direct me to the correct place if I'm out of order.

That aside...

My sister has just had a boy, and she and I were reminiscing about childhood books and she mentioned a book which we had both loved (so much so that we probably destroyed our copy through overuse) about a beaver (or similar creature) who slowly found him/herself turning into a piece of earthmoving machinery (teeth turning into shovels etc.) I would dearly love to locate a copy and buy it for my nephew but I have no idea what it was called.

If anybody out there has any idea about the book I have so poorly described, I would be exceedingly grateful to hear about it.
