Greece - We generally don't like comments like yours above. If you don't like the person, that's fine, but please don't 'make fun of' others because of their tastes.

My list includes Johnny Depp (No one can pull off twisted characters like he can)
... that's what I was going to say He's probably my all-time favorite actor because he can play ANY role and is always 200% credible. I also admire (meaning: for their talent, not their roles or looks) Christian Bale, Ian McKellen, Gary Oldman, Val Kilmer, Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Kenneth Branagh, Robert Sean Leonard, Alan Rickman and Joaquin Phoenix. Those are the people I'd probably be unable to talk to, should I ever meet them - simply because I have so much respect of how incredibly good their performances are. (I'm sure I forgot some; I'll add them later)
Other favorites include Tom Cruise, Ethan Hawke, Keanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Adam Sandler, Brad Pitt, Kiefer Sutherland, Gary Sinise, Kevin Kline, Tim Robbins, Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Hugh Jackman and Rupert Everett. Among others
As for actresses: The overall "admiration category" includes Emma Thompson, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster... can't think of any more right now...
Other favorites are Drew Barrymore, Liv Tyler, Patricia Arquette, Miranda Richardson, Kirsten Dunst, Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Nicole Kidman and Ashley Judd (who impressed me very much in "De-Lovely")
The fact that I divided my favorites into two categories does not mean that I think those in the second category are bad actors/actresses or something. It's simply because there are some who catch my attention by their incredible charisma and strong presence on the screen; others are just people I like - either because I think they're nice, or they've been in a lot of good movies, or (I admit it) I like the way they look, talk, etc. - but I wouldn't go and watch a movie I'm not really interested in just because one of those is in it. For category one, on the other hand, maybe I would - but only if it's a movie where the person is required to pull all the stops out and act at their very best.

I really like Rachel McAdams. She was funny in "The Hot Chick" and "Mean Girls" and absolutely great in "The Notebook" What I like most about her is that, so far, all her characters are portrayed realistically. It doesn't seem like she's acting; she is that person. I also like Jessica Biel because she seems like a good role model. When she did a interview and photo shoot for Seventeen awhile back, they mentioned her racy photos in the magazine Gear(I think that's the name). The next issue had a letter that she wanted printed for the readers in which she expresses her regret in doing the pictures. I think she said she was too hasty in wanting to change her image. Oh, yeah, and she was only 17 at the time! (And they were really kinda creepy, not artistic or anything like that)Anyway, she is a good actress but this is what made me notice her in the first place. As for actors? I still like Ryan Gosling and, also, Ryan Reynolds. But my all-time favorite is JIMMY STEWART!!!

I don't know the age of everyone here, but there does seem to be a generational pattern forming!
My top actor has to be Woody Allen, at his best I'd rather watch him than anyone else.
The others I like equally,
Michael Caine, used to get on my nerves but has become a national institution. Anton Rogers (met him once as well!) Lynda Bellingham Dudley Moore Patrick Stewart (watched him rehearse) Jason Alexander John Belushi Phil Silvers Ron Moody (friend of family as well) Judi Dench
As these were the first I could think of they should mean more to me than all the others I've forgotten.

A short list, all I can come up with right now.
Actresses-
Jennifer Connelly
Zhang Ziyi- Glad to see her mentioned elsewhere on this thread. What an amazing talent she is and her films have sparked an interest in Asian films for me.
Maggie Cheung- For the uninitiated, I highly recommend her "Comrades, Almost A Love Story".
Sarah Polley
Actors-
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Bill Murray
Robert Burke- Really enjoy those Hal Hartley films
Christian Bale

A hard call to make as there are so many to choose from, past and present. I've decided to limit it to five of each.
The ones who immediately come to mind are:
Actors: Sean Connery Harrison Ford Orlando Bloom Kevin Costner Leonardo DiCaprio
Actresses: Katherine Hepburn Audrey Hepburn Jodie Foster Sandra Bullock Cate Blanchett

Oh, dear. How do you pick from a lifetime of work? (I'll go with 5 of each, too, though - knowing that I'll change my answers 10 minutes from now...)
Actresses:
I'll admit up front that I like no nonsense and "push-to-the-front-of-the line" women. Some of these reflect that. - Bette Davis - Barbara Stanwyck - Kate Hepburn - Susan Sarandon - *my newest rave* Julianne Moore
Actors:
- Sean Penn (I like men who don't get pushed around, too. He surely doesn't.) - Jimmy Stewart would be a vintage one. - Johnny Depp - Peter O'Toole - Liam Neeson

Gats, as soon as I posted, I thought "Oh no, I forgot Liam Neeson".

Wow MG!
It seems our tastes in actresses (if that’s not too politically incorrect a word anymore) are virtually identical. The only one I might add to your list is Julia Roberts, but she would be last on the list because she is inconsistent (either that or she chooses some really bad venues). Her laugh is so wonderfully infectious though, and she deserves full marks for that!
As to men, while I agree whole-heartedly with Connery, Ford and the late addition of Liam Neeson, I don’t believe that Bloom, Costner or DiCaprio are that good. Costner always delivers at least one very stilted speech in every movie, that sounds as if he’s reading from a teleprompter. Bloom has potential, but isn’t there yet, and I cannot honestly see what anyone sees in DiCaprio.
To the list of Connery, Ford and Neeson, I would like to add Kevin Spacey ( a wonderful actor) and Alan Rickman. Of course, dipping back into the past, it’s hard to replace Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant! John Cusack is also a good, quirky sort of actor.
Ooooh, how could I forget Tom Hanks? He brings so much to every role he undertakes!

*bonks myself in the head*
I can't believe I left Kevin Spacey off my list! He's terrific even when the movie he's in isn't the greatest!

My other post is 4 years old, so I think I should get to do an updated one.
Actors: - Mark Ruffalo - Daniel Day-Lewis - Peter Sarsgaard - Hugh Grant - Billy Crudup - Tom Cruise - Pierce Brosnan - Jim Carrey (when he gets beyond the shtick)
Actresses: - Catherine Keener - Allison Janney - Frances McDormand - Julia Roberts - Maggie Gyllenhaal - Joan Allen - Julianne Moore (but not when she's doing a paycheck movie) - Jennifer Connely - Kate Winslet
