LOL woboogie:-)Here's one for you:-) Off I go into the attic to dig out my old 45's. I remember this one like it was yesterday. At my Aunty Margie's,on the kitchen table(I was 3years old). The two of us absolutely BELTING this out at the top of our voices:
'Middle of the Road' Where's your momma gone where's your momma gone
little baby Don little baby Don
where's your poppa gone where's your poppa gone
far far away > far far away.
Last night I heard my momma singin' a song: Ooh wee Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep
woke up this mornin' and my momma was gone
ooh wee Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep
Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep Chirp.
Where's your momma gone where's your momma gone
little baby Don little baby Don
where's your momma gone where's your momma gone
where's your poppa gone where's your poppa gone
far far away
far far away.

This one might be on this thread already somewhere (if so, please forgive my *oops*). But I just heard it at 4AM on the radio. And I stopped breathing. And I'll run the risk of (maybe) sharing it again...
I've been so many places in my life and time I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme I've acted out my life in stages With ten thousand people watching We're alone now and I'm singing this song for you I know your image of me is what I hope to be I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see There's no one more important to me Darlin' can't you please see through me Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing You came out in front and I was hiding But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding I love you in a place where there's no space or time I love you for in my life coz' you are a friend of mine And when my life is over Remember when we were together We were alone and I was singing this song for you I love you in a place where there's no space or time I love you for in my life coz' you are a friend of mine And when my life is over Remember when we were together We were alone and I was singing this song for you We were alone and I was singing this song for you We were alone and I was singing this song for you...

Sure thing:Especially given current global tensions surfacing around the Olympic Torch and it's travels. And China's response team : the 'Blue Tracksuit Security Guards' Check those guys out! Some favourite protest songs spring to mind. Including the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30W3iRL48gQThere's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down What a field-day for the heat A thousand people in the street Singing songs and carrying signs Mostly say, hooray for our side It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid You step out of line, the man come and take you away We better stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, now, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down. And I thingk I've seen the lyrics posted to this one already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmysVoRBgyA

On my radio, Alanis Morissette just finished singing "These Are The Thoughts" and the lyrics sounded mighty fine . These are the thoughts that go through my head In my backyard on a sunday afternoon When I have the house to myself and I am not Expending all that energy on fighting with my boyfriend Is he the one that I will marry? Why is it so hard to be objective about myself? Why do I feel cellularly alone? Am I supposed to live in this crazy city? Can blindly continued fear-induced regurgitated Life- denying tradition be overcome? Where does the money go that I send to those in need? If we have so much why do some people have nothing still? Why do I feel frantic when I first wake up in the morning? Why do you say you are spiritual Yet you treat people like sh*t? How can you say you're close to God And yet you talk behind my back as though I am not A part of you? Why do I say I'm fine When it's obvious I'm not? Why's it so hard to tell you what I want? Why can't you just read my mind? Why do I fear that the quieter I am the less you will listen? Why do I care whether you like me or not? Why is it so hard for me to be angry? Why is it such work to stay conscious and so easy to get stuck And not the other way around? Will I ever move back to Canada? Can I be with a lover with whom I am a student and a master? Why am I encouraged to shut my mouth When it gets too close to home? Why cannot I live in the moment?

Ooh you make me live Whatever this world can give to me It's you you're all I see Ooo you make me live now honey Ooo you make me live
Ooh you're the best friend that I ever had I've been with you such a long time You're my sunshine and I want you to know That my feelings are true I really love you Oh you're my best friend
Ooo you make me live
Ooh I've been wandering round But I still come back to you In rain or shine You've stood by me, girl I'm happy, happy at home You're my best friend
Ooo you make me live Whenever this world is cruel to me I got you to help me forgive Ooo you make me live now honey Ooo you make me live
You're the first one When things turn out bad You know I'll never be lonely You're my only one And I love the things I really love the things that you do You're my best friend
Ooo you make me live
I'm happy at home You're my best friend Oh ya Oh you're my best friend Ooo you make me live You you're my best friend.

This is what I should have used to submit my vacation request.
I'm up and gone everyday at dawn just a workin' like a regular dog To keep the woman and the water and the lights and the phone turned on I've been sayin' "Yes sir" all day at work, I've been sayin' "Yes maam" at home Savin' up my cuss words and keepin' 'em under my tongue > CHORUS I need a little time off for bad behavior The devil in me done been asleep too long I need a little time off for bad behavior It looks like I been too good for too long
Well I went to a company party, I didn't even drink enough to get high I met a preppy little wimp I shoulda whipped but I let him slide Ol' Hambone McGraw got the law paid off dealing blackjack Saturday nights And I could triple my take-home pay if it weren't for my wife
REPEAT CHORUS
I got a number on my mind that I been a fightin' off the urge to call A hot, hell-raisin' blonde bomb with a Southern drawl Some good-old boys called collect from Mississippi, said the fishin' been a missin' me And I could sure get it up for a smoke and a Delta Queen
REPEAT CHORUS & TAG

Lift ev'ry voice and sing, 'Til earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on 'til victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast'ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, 'Til now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by Thy might Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land. Lift every voice and sing Till Earth and heaven ring Let us march on till victory, is won Victory is won!

Put me on a mountain, way back in the back woods Put me on a lake with pickin on the line Put me 'round a campfire cookin' something I just cleaned You do your thing, I'll do mine
I ain't tradin' in my family's safety Just to save a little gas And I'll pray to God any place, any time And you can bet I'll pick up the phone if Uncle Sam calls me up > You do your thing, I'll do mine
Hey, I'll worry about me You just worry about you And I'll believe what I believe And you believe what you believe too
I ain't gonna spare the rod Cuz that ain't what my daddy did And I sure know the difference between wrong and right You know, to me it's all just common sense A broken rule, a consequence You do your thing, I'll do mine
Hey, I'll worry about me You just worry about you And I'll believe what I believe And you believe what you believe too
I'm gonna keep on working hard Make my money the old-fashioned way I don't wanna piece of someone else's pie If I don't get my fill on life I ain't gonna blame no one but me You do your thing, I'll do mine
You ain't gonna be my judge Cuz my judge will judge us all one day You do your thing, I'll do mine

I am closer to believing Than I ever was before On the crest of this elation Must I crash upon the shore And with the driftwood of acquaintance Light the fire to love once more I am wind blown...i am times.
To be closer to believing To be just a breath away On the death of inspiration I would buy back yesterday But theres no crueller illusion Theres no sharper coin to pay As I reach out... it slips away
From the opium of custom To the ledges of extremes Dont believe it till youve held it Life is seldom what it seems But lay your heart upon the table And in the shuffling of dreams Remember who on earth you are
I need me You need you We want us
But of course you know I love you Or what else am I here for Only you not face to face But side by side for evermore And I need to be here with you For without you what am i Just another fool out searching For some heaven in the sky Take me closer to believing Take me forward lead me on Through collision and confusion While theres life beneath the sun You are the reason I continue So near for so long So close yet so far away
I need me You need you We want us to live forever So dont let the curtain fall Measure after measure Of writing on the wall That burns so brightly It blinds us all
I need me You need you We want us to be together On sundays in the rain Closer than forever Against or with the grain To ride the storms of love again
So be closer to believing Though your world is torn apart For a moment changes all things And to end is but to start And if your journeys unrewarded May your God lift up your heart You are windblown But you are mine

Who can remember this one ?
------------------------ Crying on my pillow, lonely in my bed, Then I heard a voice beside me and she softly said, "Thunder is your night light, magic is your dream." And then as I held her, she said, "See what I mean?"
I said, "What?" She said, "Ooh-ooh-ooh, whee." I said, "All right!" She said, "Love me, love me, love me!"
Undercover angel, midnight fantasy, I never had a dream that made sweet love to me. Undercover angel, answer to my prayer, You made me know that there's a love for me out there.
Somewhere. Yeah, somewhere.
Heavenly surrender, sweet afterglow (undercover), I'm giving up my heart to you, now angel don't go. She said, "Go find the right one, love her and then (undercover), When you look into her eyes you'll see me again."
I said, "What?" She said, "Ooh-ooh-ooh, whee." I said, "All right!" She said, "Love me, love me, love me!"
Somewhere. Whoa, somewhere.
Now you know my story, and girl, if it's right, I'm gonna take you in my arms and love you tonight. Underneath the covers, being so nice, I'm looking for my angel in your sweet-loving eyes.
(undercover, undercover, undercover, etc.) She said, "What?" I said, "Ooh-ooh-ooh, whee." She said, "All right!" I said, "Get next to me." She said, "What?" I said, "Ooh-ooh-ooh, whee." She said, "All right!" I said, "Love me, love me, love me!"
Undercover angel, midnight fantasy, I've never had a dream that made sweet love to me. Undercover angel, answer to my prayer, You made me know that there's a love for me (you made me). Love me, love me, love me! Undercover angel, midnight fantasy, I've never had a dream that made sweet love to me.

Here's a newer song for you, that I just love. This is Ani Difranco's "Garden of Simple"
some crazy f*#@%er carved a sculpture out of butter and propped it up in the middle of the Bonanza breakfast bar and I am stuffing toast and sausage into my pockets under a sign that says grand opening while my dog is waiting in the car
I wake up, I check out I fill the tank and wash the windshield clean then I'm back out on the highway and BANG that's when I remember my dream:
we were standing in a garden and I had a machine that made silence it just sucked up the whole opinionated din and there were no people on the payroll and there were no monkeys on our backs and I said, show me what you look like without skin
science chases money and money chases its tail and the best minds of my generation can't make bail but the bacteria are coming to take us down that's my prediction it's the answer to this culture of the quick fix prescription
but in the garden of simple where all of us are nameless you were never anything but beautiful to me and, you know, they never really owned you you just carried them around and then one day you put 'em down and found your hands were free
so now it's early in the morning at the longitude of Memphis and the sun is setting sweetly on Hong Kong and the big plan is just to keep spinning cuz the big bang is only just beginning and sometimes it's all that we can do just to hang on
and what I meant to say is (makes a kissing sound, like mmmuh) which means I'm thinking of ya which means I've been thinking of you all along

I wish I could personally thank Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace, for writing the following song. "Thief" was inspired by a very courageous little girl who knew she was on the losing side in a battle with a malignant brain tumor. The song was released the same year that my daughter had the same diagnosis (1999). I still listen to it every day, so I can't count the number of spins this one's had. My favorite version of this is the acoustic one. It's extremely raw (I'm being very kind), but Maida's spoken intro is devastating, and it's sung from the heart.
I don't want to understand this horror There's a weight in your eyes, I can't admit Everybody ends up here in bottles But the name tags the last thing you wanted As the world explodes we fall out of it And we can't let go because this Will not go away There's a house built out in space
And I can't see that thief that lives inside of your head But I can be some courage at the side of your bed And I don't know what's happening and I can't pretend But I can be your, be your
Someone help us understand who ordered This disgusting arrangement with time and the end I don't want to hear who walked on water Cause the hallways are empty, clocks tick As the world implodes We fall into it And we can't go home because this will not go away There's a house built out in space
And I can't see that thief that lives inside of your head But I can be some courage at the side of your bed And I don't know what's happening and I can't pretend It's a long, long getaway, it's a long, long getaway Make it home again Make it home again It's a long, long getaway, it's a long, long getaway
And I can't see that thief that lives inside of your head But I can be some courage at the side of your bed And I don't know what's happening and I can't pretend But I can be your, be your I'm here and I can be your, be your I'm here It's a long, long getaway

OK, folks, humility be darned. I've got the number one quiz on the site this week and the number one quiz in four different categories, and I'm going to celebrate! Whooo!
Back in black I hit the sack It's been too long I'm glad to be back Yes, I'm let loose From the noose That's kept me hanging around I've been looking at the sky and it's gettin' me high Forget the hearse 'cause I never die I got nine lives Cats eyes Cruisin' every woman, never wonderin' why
'Cause I'm back Yes, I'm back Well, I'm back Yes, I'm back Well, I'm back, back Well I'm back in black Yes, I'm back in black
Back in the back Of a Cadillac Number one with a bullet, I'm a power pack Yes, I'm in a bang With a gang They've got to catch me if they want me to hang Cause I'm back on the track And I'm beatin' the flack Nobody's gonna get me on another rap So look at me now I'm just makin' my play Don't try to push your luck, just get out of my way
Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back Well, I'm back, back Well I'm back in black Yes I'm back in black
Tip of the hat to the lovely CellarDoor, who also has the number one quiz in four different categories.

Here's a favourite from my childhood...
What a day for a day dream, What a day for a day dreamin' boy. And I'm lost in a day dream, Dreamin' 'bout my bundle of joy. And even if time ain't really on my side, It's one of those days for taking a walk outside. I'm blowing the day to take a walk in the sun, And fall on my face in somebody's new mowed lawn.
I've been havin' a sweet dream, I've been dreamin' since I woke up today, It's starring me in my sweet dream, 'Cause she's the one that makes me feel this way, And even if time is passin' me by a lot, I couldn't care less about the dues you say I got. Tomorrow I'll pay the dues for dropping my load. A pie in the face for being a sleepy bull toad.
And you can be sure that if you're feelin right A day dream will last a long time into the night. Tomorrow at breakfast you may prick up your ears, Or you may be dreamin' for a thousand years.

Several years ago the travelling Viet Nam Wall was displayed in my town.. At midnight on a chilly misty night, I found myself on a lit stage alone, reading names of soldiers killed. I read for one hour. Had I read the next hour, I would have read the name of a schoolmate. I am married to a Purple Heart Viet Nam vet. I heard this once more on the radio today and it always brings tears ..... I never thought that this is where I'd settle down I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road The man inside he cried the day they brought me home They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son. (chorus) And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington.
I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay And when we finally found that cross He said "son, this is what it cost to keep us free" Now here I am a thousand stone away from him He recognized me on the first day I came in And it gave me a chill, when he clicked his heels and saluted me. (repeat chorus) And everytime I hear twenty one guns I know they brought another hero home to us
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done We can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones We made it to Arlington.
Yea, dust to dust Don't cry for us We made it to Arlington.

Heard this 'old' John Denver song and couldn't believe how closely it mirrors my feelings lately.
On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way. Sometimes I wish that I could fly away When I think that I'm moving, suddently things stand still I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will
And I'm looking for space And to find out who I am And I'm looking to know and understand It's a sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle And sometimes I'm deep in despair
All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems I get lost in the sadness and the screams Then I look in the center, suddently everything's clear I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams
And I'm looking for space And to find out who I am And I'm looking to know and understand It's a sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle And sometimes I'm deep in despair
On the road of experience, join in the living day if there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way
When you're looking for space And to find out who you are When you're looking to try and reach the stars It's a sweet, sweet sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle But sometimes I'm deep in despair Sometimes I fly like an eagle, like an eagle I go flying flying
