It has been my experience that there are no grey areas with Stephen King. Readers seem to love him or hate him, me, I love him. One of the very, very few celebrities I would like to meet.
Anyway, with his vast and diverse collection of works, what is your favorite or the one that sticks out in your mind the most and why? This would include anything he's had published or filmed only for TV or movies.
I'll give you my answer later. I'd just like to see how others feel and what they have to say, okay? Okay.

I'm not too much of a King fan. I have a couple of movies based on his books. I don't like them. They aren't scary in the least bit.
"It" sticks out in my mind though. The day after I got the video I was telling my friends about it thinking that they would think that it was stupid also. That didn't happen. Most of them had seen it already. Appearently, many of my friends have a fear of clowns. They thought the movie was the best horror film they had seen. I don't see it.

I love Stephen King! Is this wrong? Do I care, even if it is?

..But don't make me choose!! Am I allowed to have a top ten? In no particular order:

1) The Shining
2) Insomnia
3) Nightmares & Dreamscapes (The End Of The Whole Mess!)
4) It
5) Misery
6) 'Salem's Lot
7) Needful Things
8) Carrie
9) The Green Mile
10) The Stand

..to this day I have not seen a movie/television adaptation that has done any of the books any justice. But do they ever?

And "Gerald's game!" I know that makes it 11, but I had to put it in!!!

It just occured to me that maybe I should have started this in the book forum. Oh well! I agree the movies never do his books justice, but the mini-series The Stand came close. Maybe that's because he wrote the screen play himself! He has being doing this more and more, ever since Kubrick completely ruined The Shining. Now he has complete creative control right down to who writes the screenplay and if it will be a movie or on TV. Now that's what I call power in Hollywood! More power to him for getting it!

I love Stephen King, Have been his #1 fan (lol) since I first read The Stand in 1980. Favorite books and movies include The Stand and It. Both were outstanding. My favorite books by him are the Dark Tower series. I read them over and over and never get tired of them.

I love to read horror books but Stephen King is my favorite. Did any of you know he used to write under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman.

I'm a Stephen King fan too. I was only a child when I first saw Pet Sematary. I liked the movie but I had never heard of King then. Later I discored his books and I was really supprised that the movie was based on one of his stories. To choose a favorite is really hard but I've read Cujo more than once. And the Dark Towers series are also amoung my favorites. I hope he writes a lot more books. I'll never get tired of reading his stories.

I've rather enjoyed King's earlier books (and the Bachman books). The movies seldom do justice to the books, but 'Sleepwalkers' was intriguing. A bit of controversial theme in relationships, but was Hollywood spooky.

I get a chuckle out of the minor characters King occasionally plays in his movies. He adds a real touch of dorky amusement to the film. I don't know if Stephen is a dork in reality, but he certainly plays one well. Hopefully on purpose.

'Salem's Lot was good, as well as 'Thinner.' Most of his books are 'A' grade, but the movies have all, so far, been straight grade 'B' (IMHO, of course.) 'Good' is a relative term, and to that genre. Don't think they're much threat at the Oscars.

I saw a movie called Knightriders, a group of people jousted on motorcycles.
Traveling around the country putting on shows kinda like a circus.
Or a precursor to the renaissance fairs of today.
At one show the camera stayed on some fat loudmouth decrying it’s all as fake as wrestling, the guy looked very familiar, turns out it was Steven King and the movie was based on one of his short stories. That was the first movie I noticed him in. but I have seen a few others since then.
