I try to open some site, like gmail for instance and it persists in opening in the minimum size, usually at the top of the screen. This has been happening for a day. I thought that maybe I have shut down with something in minimum size last night, so I restarted the thing, but it still does it. How can I sort this stupid problem as it is making me cross? Thanks

I asked the exact same question last year ( it's very annoying isn't it? ) and here is Tellies response then. Hopefully it'll work for you

Quote:

I've done this before but can't reliably put it to the test right now because I'm trying out the beta 2 version of IE7. What's written below works on that. It should be the same for IE6:

* Right-click on a link and choose to open the page in a new Window.

* Close the original Window.

* Drag the remaining Window to the size you would like new Windows to open at (full screen size if you like). Don't use the 'Maximise' button to do it.

* Close the Window.

* Open IE again. The Window will open at the size you set for a new Window. Use the 'Maximise' button to make it fill the screen.

* Try opening a new Window. It should open at the size you set for new Windows.

The maximised Window size should be remembered on IE start-up. The new Window size should also be remembered.

Hope you are keeping track of the number of pints Ren owes you Copago - you will be able to collect when she arrives in Oz.

Try downloading the latest Java update to disk, rather than doing the update online. Run the .exe from the Desktop when downloaded. Before doing that, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any existing Java installations. This isn't strictly necessary. The new version will install alongside existing one(s). It's just that uninstalling older versions keeps things cleaner. If you already have the latest version installed (Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6), perhaps try reinstalling it.

Here's a link to the Java download page. Click the 'Download' button next to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6'. On the next page, you'll need to agree to the licence and then choose the top option. The one that says: 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' ('Jre-6-windows-i586.exe' is the name of the file).

Now she has REALLY gone and done it!

I just received a TELEPHONE CALL from a VERY sad sounding Sara who is now without a computer until some time after the Chinese New Year! She could be without it for anything up to two weeks.

She tried to do what you told her Martin but something went wrong and now her computer will not boot and she couldn't even make the boot disk work.

She will no doubt tell us about it once she is back online. Apparently she is suffering withdrawal symptoms already.

Sounds like there must have a bit more to it than just a Java problem then ...unless some mistake or other has been made. Oh well, I'll just have to take my 'telling off' like a man when she gets back

Yes well, TW It was like this....
You are no way whatsoever in anyway shape or form to blame, neither am I!! It was the hard drive that went good and proper! I now have a new one. This must be a record as one of the school techies bought it, installed and got it running in about 12 hours. They just go , dont they, hard drives, I mean (well techies too!!)
Moral, must not just back up but keep backing up , must get a flash thingie. Thank goodness I had all the pws and all the photos in Photobucket and or gmail.
I have one question for anyone who has "Webshots' installed. I adore it and my pictures change automatically . I have the link to the website, and I can log in, but I do not know where to find my old pictures that used to come up on my screen in sequence. I cannot find the "PhotoManager " link, in other words. Anyone can? Thanks XX I am SO glad to be back I was going completely loopy (no comment please)

It's good to have you back so soon!

About "Webshots" (I adore it too!) - if you're having a new hard drive, you'll have to download and re-install the Webshots software/PhotoManager.
Unfortunately, this will not bring back the photos you had stored in there. Unless they were picture files on your (former) hard drive and you still have them somewhere (CDs, Photobucket, anywhere). Or you have kept them in the "My Shots" section of the Webshots site.

But the first thing you have to do is get Webshots back on your PC and then start from there. The installation kit (.exe file) comes with a collection of photos already available, and you'll have to start downloading more photos from their site or somewhere else.

*If it's of any help, I can easily send beautiful landscape/animals/flowers photos attached in an e-mail....or more.

Good luck!

Sue! I'm appalled! How could you say that about our esteemed FT member?

Oh thanks so much Denni, I have done as you said and re-installed it. Thanks for the offer, you are right I had some of the pics from there in Photobucket. The rest well, I needed a change anyway. Thanks again . Just ignore the old dear, she is jealous of my wit and charm. She just didn't have our advantages, as my Mama used to say.

Glad the computer is working OK now ...but if the problem had been just a Java one, the above description might have been the way to fix it.

Ren, you're most welcome!

Your Mama was a great wise person, and you certainly resemble her a lot.

About our old dear - do you think that if she had "Webshots" too maybe she'd be less jealous?

Here I am again. Well, the title of this thread fits, so I am saving starting new threads.
I am puzzled (again?!). When you right click on some text(for instance) a little list comes up that says 'copy', 'paste' etc. Well mine does come up , but it is invisible unless I run my mouse over it. It is a wireless mouse and it's been ok up to now, the batteries are fine. What have I done now?? Help please, thanks.

Well done Ren -- Charge on! I keep slapping my mouse around wondering why the cursor won't do what I want it to do. Never think the batteries might be going.

A PS/2 or USB wired mouse is the answer
