As a compliment to Lanni's thread on the worst endings to shows, I'd like to share some of my best endings.

For instance, I'd have to put the last Newhart on there. Waking up in the bed (as if it were all a dream) with Suzanne Pleshette was classic!

And, I'd have to say the last Little House on the Prairie. The network told Michael Landon that they were going to destroy the set when they shut down the show. Rather than see his beloved set demolished by strangers, he decided to do it himself. The last episode was the blowing up of the town. The tears of the people were real; the regulars of the show were really watching something they'd come to love having to be destroyed.

What others can you think of?

Maybe “Quantum Leap,” Sam made peace with the fact that he was a leaper. I didn't think that ending was too bad.

The best movie endings are "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "My Best Friends Wedding" and "Shakespeare in Love".

TV, I've always liked "Cheers" and "The Cosby Show".

The best movie ending ever is in 'Joe Dirt.' It's a terrible movie, but hey, he gets the car, he gets the girl, he gets the dog, he gets the Christopher Walken. Perfect.

I love the ending of The Sting. They get the bad guys' money and he doesn't even know he'd been gotten!

i was going to post the other day when i saw this but i couldn't remember the name of the movie i had in my head..

What Dreams May Come, with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr....at the end when Williams and his wife return as children...it was sooo sweet...that would be one of my favourite endings...

The first one that popps to mind is "Good Will Hunting", it isn't necessaraly the best, but I enjoyed it. He uses the shrink's line, says adios to the old neighborhod and goes off to "get the girl."
And who could ever forget the end of "Return of the Jedi"?

The first great movie ending that comes to mind, is The Good Son. I won't give it away, but it came right out of the blue and I almost fell out of my seat. If you like suspense, rent it as soon as you can!!!!!

The ending to The Shawshank Redemption makes up for all the nastiness and cruelty beforehand. I loved it.

BEST MOVIE ENDING EVER!!!

The best movie ending ever is from a little English film called The Italian Job, starring Michael Caine. It's about a robbery using mini coopers. Believe me, find this movie and watch it, then ending is a real cliff hanger.

The very very ending to Carrie is great.

I always enjoyed the last MASH almost purely because Winchester gives Hotlips one of his books. !!! Dunno just liked that.

I loved the ending of What Dreams May ome, too. Wonderful.

The Wizard of Oz I really loved the ending, too.

And Gone With The Wind--left it up our imaginations-if Rhett really stayed gone. (I'd not come back myself, though!)

And I loved the ending of the original Star Wars movie, too.

And the ending of The Fellowship of the Ring, part 1 of LOTR, when Sam nearly drowned following Frodo, and he tells Frodo he will never leave him. Such devotion from a friend, it was really touching. And a wonderful ending to the movie. I thought.
