No, I don't think so. He has really had it with her, I know that I wouldn't come back if I were him. She should have found out years earlier that she loved him, and I don't blame him that he doesn't want to stay woth someone as stubborn as her, so stubborn that she won't even admit to herself that she loves him. He will think of her quite often I think, but, no, I don't think he will come back.

Have you read "Scarlett" by Alexandra Ripley? It was written as a sequel to GWTW and approved by Margaret Mitchell's estate. Style is very true to Mitchell's and it is an excellent book. DON'T however watch the TV miniseries that was made of it as it is truly awful!!

Buffy is right. He did come back in the sequel Scarlett. I missed the mini-series, but now I don't feel so bad! Thanks Buffy.

Brainy Blonde, I know you really love the Vivian Leigh, Clark Gable classic, and I am afraid you would find the sequel disappointing, too.

What I am wondering (for fans of the MGM classic) is this:

This first time you watched GTTW, as the ending credits started to roll, What did you think:

A. Does Rhett come back-or is it too Little Too Late??? YOUR opinions, and why?

I really looking forward to hearing from you and other fans of GTTW. Also, Ashley Wilkes--what do you think of him? Thanks!

bwy, this is the very first movie I ever saw. My aunt took to see it at a film revival years ago.

I just watched (for about he 5oth time) that again last night (was on TNT, was bored w/the superbowl). That is such a tough question. I REFUSED to watch that garbage they called a sequel.
All I can say is that she and Rhett were honestly made for each other. I hope he did come back. But I certainly also hope he remembers who's boss. (Hee hee... her!!)

Linda,

In answer to your question, the first time I saw the film I thought there was a possibility of Rhett coming back, Scarlett was very determined and they were "made for each other". I often wonder if Margaret Mitchell had lived longer she would have written a sequel herself and if so what would have happened.

Ashley Wilkes, in my opinion, was pathetic giving out mixed signals for so long - no strength of character whatsoever!

Buffy, I was too young the first time I watched GWTW to get anything out of it. The second time I watched it, as an adult, I thought like you did that Rhett and Scarlett were really made for each other. And I just couldn't stand Ashley Wilkes! He wanted Scarlett, sure, but he never loved her--and he strung her along for years! I wish I could have slapped his face for him--he deserved it!

I believe Ms. Mitchell would have written a sequel, had she lived, and I think Scarlett and Rhett would have gotten back together in it. (Just my wishful thinking?)

GWTW is certainly a wonderful novel, and a Classic movie that deserves its popularity.
