my friend and I rented what was supposed an incredible film. This movie however, turned out to be 3+ hours of sheer hell. Magnolia. My brothers loved it and friends that typically like the same films as I loved it.... I understand art for arts sake, but that went above and beyond the call of duty. What I would like to know is what do you think is the most overrated film.

My boyfriend thought the same as you about "Magnolia", I enjoyed it and intend to watch it again at some point as I think it will bear a second viewing. He suggests "Citizen Kane" or "Dances with Wolves" (I thought the latter was rubbish too). I hated "The Piano" but I think my vote would have to go to "Titanic". All those oscars and it's absolutely unwatchable.

Titanic, Girlfriend at the time and my kids loved it, all I got was lighter in the wallet by about $65.00 and lower back pain from sitting that long. Good movie yes, Highest box-office ever, I didn't see it. The scene that killed it was the old lady dropping the diamond back into the ocean. A young woman arrives in soon to be depression era America, no family, no friends, no skills to speak of, she manages to live for the next 90+ years through the depression, two world wars, and never needs the money bad enough sell the stone.

I am so glad to find at last people who agree with me! Definitely the TITANIC. Waste of time, silly. The thing that bothered me most was that I expected to see what really happened. It seems like some people took advantage of this tragedy just to sell a cheap love story. I was waiting too long to say this

i think 'Boxing Helena' was the biggest load of *!%@>^!. it is the only film i have ever wanted to walk out of and demand my money back - but then i don't think it was rated very highly at the time anyway. but i loved crouching tiger - one the best i've seen for a while. still the world would b a really boring place if we all liked the same films!!!

Blair Witch....definately!!! A big group of us watched that at a Halloween party and while everyone was shaking in their boots, another friend and I were cracking jokes through the whole movie. Needless to say people were a little hacked with us. And what was so funny about American Pie? Everyone I know loves it, but I didn't get the humour. (Well...I guess I got it, but I just didn't find it all that funny.)

I'm afraid I just did not care for The Phantom Menace. Maybe it was the Queen's costumes--Queen Elizabeth I Futuristic Look, I guess it was called. I really did enjoy that last feathery pink Mish-mash she wore--it cracked me up! And her face paint look like Poe's Masque of the Red Death. You know, the Queen's wardrobe wouldn't have bothered me if I'd like the story, movie, plot--Anything! I've never seen another movie I ever disliked so much. I can usually enjoy anything--unless it's too long or too gory. You know I've never seen The Blair Witch Project, but maybe I haven't missed that much then? I tried watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on DVD, but even with the English soundtrack and sub-titles, I could not understand a quarter of what was being said, so I gave up on it.

I may get attacked, but I totally agree with Phantom Menace. It was just not as good as the first 3 (or last 3) however you want to look at it. The graphics were much better, I agree, but a good movie can't go on special effects alone.

The Phantom menace did not have as strong a storyline as the other films, And If you don't like NASCAR, you won't care for the POD races. I'm just wondering if Lucas will work the WWF into the next feature.

Hilarious Wizard!! I have to agree about "Phantom Menace." I saw the original "Star Wars" in the theatre at age 5 w/my dad and grew up on the trilogy. I was so looking forward to sinking my teeth into a fourth as an adult, but was so dissapointed. C'mon George, be good to your kids.

Please listen to this peoples. When we all saw the original Star Wars we were all really little and younger. There was magic, there was awe, there was greatness in something we had never seen before. Hey! We are older now, why should George stick to making a film for us? Are we going to buy the crappy overpriced action figures and other crappy merchandise? He's still shooting for the younger ones, who seem to love episode 1 as much as we loved a new hope.

I totally have to agree with all the people who said Titanic. I thought it was just a bunch of money wasted on that movie. It was probably NOTHING like the acual sinking of the Titanc. It didn't even look like that actually happened when it was sinking. But I have to give credit to the Gladiator and Blair Witch. Gladiator was a great movie. It even looked like it actually happened. Blair Witch was good to for making up iff the top of their heads. For your information, there were no scrips for that movie. They didn't even know what they were gonna do to the actors. Sassydancer

Obviously we are discussing major films that failed to live up to their budgets. There are many other films that are so bad they go straight to video. The worst major film of modern times must be Titanic - unfortunately the hype probably means it made a profit. I won't hear a word against Citizen Kane, probably the greatest film ever made!

Anyone mentioned The Matrix? I only watched it on TV recently, ads and all, and I suppose that it lost a fair bit from the big screen but I can't see what all the deal was with that one ... thank God it had some snazzy special effects, nothing else going for it.
