Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me where the capital of Tuvalu is? Up until know, I hadn't even heard of Tuvalu!!! Help, this is driving me crazy! The hunt I'm playing is called 'World Capitals'.

Fongafale / Funafuti

Tuvalu consists of 5 low-lying coral atolls, 4 islands, and more than 100 islets, all spread over a very large area, and was formerly known as Ellice Islands. Fongafale is the capital city, located on the Funafuti Atoll.

Finally found it! When I entered Tuvalu, it brought me to a point on the map that was not centered on the island that was actually well populated (based on satellite images). I finally panned the map in the right direction and found it!

Any particular reason why they changed the name from Ellice Islands? Was it to get the .TV extension? If so, brilliant move!

Their name changed upon a change in their British dependency status in the mid 1970's.

You might well find that Tuvalu was the original Polynesian name and was changed by the British to Ellice Islands when it became in protectorate in 1892. The locals have always referred to the islands as Tuvalu and simply reverted to the orignial name after 1978.

I wondered if that might be the case.

I just checked the entry for Jersey and found a glaring error so don't take what you read in there as fact.

It says Fiscal year: 1 April - 31 March. Except that that is the UK, our fiscal year is 1 January to 31 December.

Sounds like a contridiction of terms Sue. CIA = Central intelligence Agency!

I also found a wonderful glaring error, stating that the Faroe Islands use the Danish Krone as their currency. They don't - it's the Faroese Krónor...
