I remember a friend of ours from an enormous European Mormon family and his wife from an enormous CAtholic Texan family and they had their three little kids and we were on an outing in a big park with temptations like little horse carts and sweets and ice cream. Our kid was asking for a ride on the ponies as were theirs.
As I grew up the oldest of four and I knew what it was like to hear, 'we can't afford it' when we went to the fair or, on rare occasions, we'd get one ride, and have to enjoy it...well, we were strolling and at one point, their kids asked for a ride on those pony carts...and he said, 'no, we can't afford ....then finally said, 'ok, well you've been so good today, you deserve one turn..but that's all.' and he told me, I grew up never ever getting anything like this...with eleven siblings, so, I do occasionally tell them, just this once....
Oh, my grandmother would ask us if we had underskirts on...meaning slips.
What a laugh we'd have about that one.
