Someone's been missing all the action till today...

I think in honour of Private Eye magazine and one of my local stations my first entry should be of Neasden underground station, a landmark of suburban London.



To those confused, many of our underground lines go overground some miles from the centre, and this one does even closer.

Here in the vibrant metropolis of Hastings, we've always referred to the neighbouring town of Bexhill as "the cemetery with street-lights." But besides its lighting it also has this art-déco arts centre (the De La Warr Pavilion), recently refurbished. Now that "Photo-a -day" is encouraging me to get out and about, I may even go to the touring opera there next month.

I headed out this afternoon to take my newspapers to be recycled and then I was going to try to find something to photograph. As I parked I heard them announce on the radio that they were giving away scratch cards at a nearby supermarket and would only be there for another half an hour. I had been listening for a week or two when they have been giving away these cards in various locations around the island but they never seem to be near me. There are five possible prizes for the lucky winners, only two of them were of interest to me and they were a bottle of champagne and the other was a day trip to France or Guernsey.

I quickly took the following photo then shot off to claim my free scratch card. Yes I won a prize, look out for my photo from St Malo soon!

Sue and I went last time I was over. I love it. Lucky old bat!

I was out and about on Monday, but without my camera, so here's another from Sunday's walk. Susanna Moodie is a well-known Canadian pioneer and author, and one of her homes is nearby.

Like many old seaside pleasure piers, the one at Hastings has seen better days. It’s been closed for some time because the supports are unsafe, and the latest rumours suggest that it’s going to be demolished.

It's another lovely almost-spring day, and I did go for a walk - but saw nothing photo-worthy. Instead I have opted for this one of a squirrel running along the fence top, earlier this afternoon. Hope he shows up!

Apart from having my hair cut I haven't really been out today but hopefully will make up for it tomorrow, weather permitting. Today was a lovely day, I just wasn't in the right mood as it is the anniversary of my mother's death.

Congrats Sue I hope you enjoy your outing and looking forward to the photos. I feel like I am seeing the world with all these lovely photographs and you all make me feel guilty as I have not posted any for a few days.

Today I was determined to photograph some of our glorious daffodil fields. When they are in full bloom this is not good news for growers as it means they have not sold the bulk of the crop. They aim for the Mothers' Day market which is this coming Sunday but alas it has been a mild winter and many of them have not only bloomed but are fading.

We've had some lovely nature shots lately.

The house on the right is said to be the oldest in Hastings.

The house in the middle with the “for sale” board outside may be just an ordinary Victorian terraced house; but whoever buys it will have a house that was once occupied by one of the most instantly recognizable women who ever lived. As I learned only this week, Whistler’s mother lived there for the last six years of her life and died there in 1881. Whistler’s works include a watercolour (”On the Beach, Hastings”), presumably painted when he was visiting his mother.

I took this one yesterday but wanted to post it. There are three cart horses in the field around the corner from here. Certainly there is mother and foal (I think this might be the foal), and perhaps the dad too. When it was small it was so cute.



Edited to say I have found out it is mother and son (that is the son) and an unrelated mare.
