Shelly Winters! Gawd...it took me hours to remember that! YES...she's a classic! Through the years and tears and youth and maturity...I love her! I remember in the Poseidon Adventure, when she was a mature Jewish wife...plump and full of moxy...and she had to dive for a cable or something to save everyone...and she informed them that she used to be an Olympic swimmer in her youth...and OFF SHE WENT! God, I love her....salty, sassy and in touch with herself and her place in the world, it seems to me. Loud and brash, but honest overall!

"I'm NOT Cleopatra, I'm NOT Desdamona(?), I'm NOT CINDERELLA AT THE BALL.............." (she was a rather plain farm girl who Burt (a wild eyed dreamer) kinda swept off her feet...tried to convince her she was sumthin') *oops...TWO favourites there!* There's heaps more! Hope that helped, Jen9!

My favorite actresses? The Hepburns:I enjoyed both of them the most in comedies. Katherine in the Philadelphia Story and Bring up Baby, booth wacky comedies with Cary Grant. Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany’s a movie that showcased her great beauty and comedic talent. Lefois, it is nice to have someone, with whom to share some of these older memories.

Lord Andry! I'm so old I saw Wait Until Dark with my Grade 10 English class of 28 girls! We absolutely FREAKED in the final scenes! All grabbin' onto each other....and shrieking...it was GREAT! ..and Jen9...You MUST see "African Queen"..Humphrey Bogart's in it, too...........and the "Rainmaker" with Katherine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster....cause that's just one of the BEST! Honest! Might have to look at the Golden Oldies section, but they'll be CHEAP, anyway! ..and Vikan...don't like "getting on"...but it's nice to know ya, too!

I must echo the thread with Audrey Hepburn. Both talented and beautifull. As far as modern actresses, Helen Hunt and Meg Ryan.

Oh, I am so glad that I am not the only who in the forums who actually remembers watching Audrey Hepburn on the screen instead of home video! She was such a lovely lady, a real joy to watch--I loved Sabrina, Breakfast At Tiffany's. I cannot recall one I did not enjoy. I thought African Queen was Katherine Hepburn at her finest--fiesty, but vunerable, too. Ms.Hepburn wrote a wonderful book, loaded with photos, on the making of The African Queen. She said the entire crew became very ill from drinking polluted water--except John Houston and Humphrey Bogart-who never drank any water-and even drank their whiskey neat! And I really loved The Rainmaker, though, I would have chosen Burt Lancaster, I'm afraid! I really could not believe the performance of Judi Dench in Chocolat--it blew me away!! She was marvelous.

yeah, I guess I was born in the wrong time. I love old movies and old stars god...Bogie was awesome Ingrid Bergman in Casablance (and anything else) who played opposite Bogie's Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon? I can't remember. Vivian Leigh (this brings a mention of Clark Gable) I don't know if gals like Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo belong in this category. they were more bombshells... I like the other girls for acting.
