Tell me....Who do you think has succeded the most going from the singing world into the movie world???? I think..............

Jennifer Lopez has done well for herself. I think she done a wonderful job in Selena. And I think Aaliyah would have been huge in the movie industry (R.I.P) she done so good in Romeo Must Die and i can't wait to see her films she got finished before she left us!!

I thought Mark Wahlberg was excellent in "Boogie Nights". And I think that Cher has turned out to be quite a good actress, see "Moonstruck".

Bjork, in Dancer in the Dark, gave the best performance I've seen by anyone.

Dwight Yoakam, in Sling Blade, was rather impressive; I look forward to seeing him in Panic Room.

I agree with Lupetta............Cher! In anything she's been in...shocked the hell outta me! Who'd a thunk it?

How about Frank Sinatra? Oceans 11 (the original) and something called Hell's Kitchen, I believe....

Geez........I'm so old....all my answers seem to be trivia!

Ice Cube.........Meatloaf............Peggy Lee!

Cher is a wonderful actress...but i'd have to go with Mark Wahlberg as well...i was amazed at how well he is...but so are Ice Cube and Ice T..both amazing as actors...

i wouldn't put Jennifer Lopez in this section..as she was acting before she had a music career...

tis okay...but i was thinking about it and it seems more men have made the change over from music to acting...women seem to go the other way...or that's how it looks to me...

included in the men are Busta Rhymes, Sting, Roger Daltry, Mos Def, Everlast, Donnie Wahlberg, and probably many more that i can't think of off the top of my head..aside from older people like Dean Martin and the like...

i can barely think of any women...aside from Cher, an attempt from Mariah, and Britney, Tina Turner has done a couple of films..but i wouldn't say successful...

Female singers who have made movies????
Here's a few for you to comment on:-

Whitney Houston
Diana Ross
Alanis Morrisette
Patsy Kensit
Olivia Newton-John
Lauren Hill

There are many more, but they will do for starters.

Oh, and what about Madonna?

Hey Sparky, You're right about Madonna (i loved The Next Best Thing with Rupert Everette)! And Olivia Newton-John who can forget about Grease....And Whitney did good in Bodyguard but that is the only one i seen her in unless i'm missing one here. I know about Waiting To Exhale I only seen a few parts of it not enough to judge it though. The only one i seen Lauren Hill in was Sister Act. I seen Alanis in.....What was it called Dogma or Stigmata or Whatever????I didn't like it though. But, those were pretty good.I liked most of them too.Oh and Cher i like her too. Forgot to mention it earlier!! .....C-ya....

I think it's 'Lauryn Hill'
yeah, that girl has a set of pipes.
if you've seen 'Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit'
you'll know what I'm talking about
great gospel background.

most musicians are not very successful at all about flipping to acting.

so, I think there should be a ban on such things.
that would get rid of things like Crossroads and Glitter.
both of which I can't believe that people would waste their money on. either to watch or to produce.

Okay Jellee why do you feel stupid?? I will admit Lord Andry I am intrested in seein how well Britney done in her movie. Why I don't know. I guess i will watch anything and everything as long as it seems to make sense. And your right Lauren Hill does have a good voice. Yeah she played the girl in Sister Act 2 that wanted to be in the chorus and her mother didn't want her to she said that she needed to stay in the books that singing wasn't gonna make her successful and she went on the trip anyway and they won and well if yah seen the movie yah know i am starting to blab on too much..Shutting up now....C-Ya

i feel stupid cause when i was writing out the list of people..i totally blanked on Madonna, and Whitney...and both don't suck as actresses...and Olivia is a pretty good actress..although i have no idea what happened to her...and i don't think Alannis should count..she only did Dogma after her music career..and she didn't say anything...plus she's another that was acting before she began her singing career...

well, different shakes for different folks.
everyone likes something different.

sorry, but in my opinion, Madonna and Whitney aren't very good actors at all.

My bar for actors is very high.
You have to be a Helen Hunt, an Audrey Hepburn, a Katherine Hepburn. Now they have all done bad movies.
but they shine in the truly good ones. add Dame Judi Dench

ability I think we can all agree on.
Kristin Scott Thomas...think English Patient.
any old star, Ingrid Bergman, Vivian Leigh, etc.

current stars are few and far between.
they don't make 'em like they used too.

Jennifer Connelly did a good turn in A Beautiful Mind
but really hasn't done much other good work.
she's really pretty though...see Rocketeer.

how many American women actors do you know are better than the hype?
not that many...

as far as ability goes the current list is short.
I'd say Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow.
but I digress.

we are talking about musician/actors.
honestly, there just isn't a standout in the bunch.
musicians should realize their limitations and stick with the format that works for them.

hey, lauryn hill...please spell her name right

Sting.....period...end of story.

Who do you think should make a go at the big screen? I'd like to see U2's guitarist The Edge take a role of some sort.

I can't believe that no one has echoed my nod for Bjork. Did anyone else see that movie?

"Dogma" was the film with Alanis Morrisette as God. I think this was ironic as she wasn't allowed to speak because the sound of her voice would kill any mortal who heard it (I expect you can guess I'm not a fan ;-) ).

Much kudos to Lincoln for mentioning Sling Blade. I've only seen that film once and I missed the first half hour and I thought what I saw of it was absolutely extraordinary. For some reason Sky don't seem to show it regularly and I've never seen it in a video shop.

On a similar note, how about comedians who've gone on to act in films?? Billy Connelly in "Mrs Brown" gave an EXCEPTIONAL performance I thought.

I seen it when i was like 6,or 7.Anyway, Hey Jay what movie did Sting play in? As far as comedians that's made it big Eddie Murphy, he is an awesome actor. Oh lord my mind has completely just went blank.

When I watched Perfect Storm, Mark Wahlberg really surprised me. I really enjoyed his performance. I am sure he was fine in Boogie Nights, but I had no idea what it was about when I watched it--So, I am afraid it shocked Mary Poppins here (as some of my family calls me-better than being called the Wicked Witch of the West, I guess!)--Pretty Darn Bad!

I really loved Moonstruck with Cher. The scene where she slappped Nicholas Cage's character's face was hilarious.

Desperately Seeking Susan was so cute. Madonna was great, but I guess she played her Outrageous personna in it.

When Will Smith is not playing "Will Smith", he can really act. In Bagger Vance, he was great.

Don't forget, in the classic musicals, actors were singers.

As for LordA corecting the 'Lauren', well, he is an editor (one of the nicest) in FT, so of course he's gonna Edditt missteaks.

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Elvis Presley all had fairly sucessful movie careers as did Barbara Striesand, Julie Andrews and Bing Crosby.

Sorry Sparky but i haven't seen any of those my husband might have though. I'm sure he is a good actor i've loved his music ever since he was in The Police and if he can act as well as he sings then i'm sure he is an excellent actor. Oh i love Julie Andrews even today she's still amazing on the big screen, but did she sing before she acted the only singing i heard her do was in her movies and she sings beautifully.

successful is one thing

regarded as a good actor is quite another.
has any one of these crossovers ever gotten an Oscar nod?
