Stranger than Fiction by Chuck Palahniuk. Outrageous, but good.

Hey Ren, I hope you have some good books put aside ready for your trip!
I've just finished reading "Notes from a Big Country" by Bill Bryson. It is a collection of articles that he wrote about America for a British magazine. He wrote them while living in America, after having lived in England for about two decades. Some of the articles compare British and American attitudes and ways of life. His observations are very funny and very true.
I'm about to start reading Jodi Piccoult's "My Sister's Keeper" (not sure if I spelled her name correctly and I can't check the book because it's in the bedroom and I've just washed the floors and I have to wait for them to dry). I've never read any of her books but this one came highly recommended by a friend.

At the moment I'm reading both "Evil Under the Sun" by Agatha Christie, and "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins. Loving both of them so far!

I had a great book for my birthday and I shall finish it on the plane, it is: Cream, How Eric Clapton Took the World by Storm by Dave Thompson. The pictures are great and I am enjoying reading the history of the group and the dynamics of the 3. They did not get on AT ALL! I shall get some more at the airport, they have such lovely bookshops there.

I am upto the third book of the Amber chronicles, Sign of the Unicorn. This one has started off with a lot of backstory, unlike the first two books which were more action-oriented. It's still good, though.
I'm also reading Harsh Cry of the Heron by Lian Hearn. I was pleasantly surprised one day when I walked past Angus & Robertson to see a beautifully designed cover on display. The first thing I noticed was that it's by Hearn and wondered if she had written a new book, or series. I started reading the blurb and found that it's a continuation of the Otori trilogy, which I thought had already been completed. I couldn't wait to read it! I've finally borrowed it from the library. It's a lot longer and more drawn out than the its predecessors but I love the feeling of delving back into the worlds of these characters and their lives, which I so enjoyed the first time around.

I've just finished 'The Namesake' by Jhumpa Lahiri. It's a tale of Indian immigrants in the US and I really like the way she writes.
Now reading 'Wyrd Sisters' by Terry Pratchett and 'A Dangerous Fortune' by Ken Follett.

The Testament by John Grisham. About a multi-billionaire about to die, and when he signs his final will, he suddenly gets out a handwritten will and signs it, then commits suicide. It's really good so far.

I have just finished reading 'Tommorrow When the War Began' by John Marsden - an Australian writer. It's the first one in a series of 7. I bought the 2nd and 3rd installment from a bookstore today as I am thouroughly immersed in this world.
This series is actually for teenagers and is usually in the year 12 curriculum as a study book. I didn't read it in school but spied it in a second hand store last week and thought I would reminisce about my school days. I'm VERY glad I did. This book (and hopefully the whole series) is passionate, involving, mesmerising, all consuming. It takes such a strong stand point on humanity, war, friendship and strength and takes you through every human emotion there is.
I definitely reccommend it and will be buying the whole series so that, in the future, my kids can plunge into this important world of discovery and the human condition.

I've just started 'Memoirs of a Geisha' by Arthur Golden. It's quite an absorbing read and I'm trying to check a few things on the internet to see if it's factually correct.

Finishing up "Wolf Moon" by Charles de Lint. Found this out of print paperback at amazon marketplace. Not another Newford storyline, this time de Lint places his characters at an inn in what reads to be the 17th or 18th century. What happens when a werewolf falls in love with an attractive innkeeper? Or when a mysterious harp playing musician/traveller pursues the werewolf with a vengeance? Ah, you gotta hunt down a copy cause I'm not telling more than that.

Right now, I am reading "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck for my Honors English Class. It is a good book by a great author. I would reccommend it to all Steinbeck lovers.

I've just started on "Mistress Peachum's Pleasure," by Lisa Hilton. it's a biography of Lavinia Fenton, the first female lead in the Beggar's Opera, who finished up as a Duchess. Ms Hilton's first sentence is almost good enough for Jane Austen: "Passion is a surprising thing to come upon a person at the age of forty-seven, particularly in Tunbridge Wells."

I've just started reading "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult.
It is about a young girl called Anna who sues her parents for the right to make her own decisions about how her body is used when a kidney transplant is planned in order to try to save her older sister. Anna's parents used in vitro fertilisation to conceive a baby (i.e. Anna) that would be a genetic tissue match for their older daughter who had a particularly aggressive form of leukaemia.

I just finished the first 2 books in the Ranger's Apprentice series. Excellent and original. I am currently reading Summer of My German Soldier, by Bette Greene and The Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring. Fantasy is life.

I'm reading "Gerald Durrell The authorised biography" by Douglas Botting. I'm half way through and have been surprised to find he was a lot different than I have always thought of him.
Also, I've finally finished the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I read three books whilst I was trying to read that including "While I live" and "Incurable" by John Marsden. These both only took a couple of days each to read as they're impossible to put down.
