I'm really sorry to hear about your friend Sue
My highlight will be tomorrow, when I go on a coach holiday, with Mum, one of her sisters and her husband for five whole days

So sorry, Sue. I've known my best friend for more than 30 years and I can't imagine how I'd feel if I lost her. My thoughts are with you.

So, are you going to post that scan in photo-a-day? (I don't think there'd be too many privacy issues, as I think he'll probably look a bit different soon, and most people can't tell what they're looking at when they look at one of those anyway. )

Sue, my deepest condolences on the loss of your friend.
My high and low today were the same: I got fired and then unfired. (Not sure which is the high and which is the low, though.)

Very sorry Sue, I'm in a similar position except the friend was my parents' and I knew him as my own friends' father all my life and he died of cancer last week after exposure to asbestos many years ago. But in later years he became more of a friend and less of a parent figure, mainly after he discovered I could do crosswords and started taking me seriously. I am so pleased I did my video interview project about 5 years ago as when I interviewed him about his memories and then his wife (separately) they both told the same story about me. I was a terrible child! Now like so many other people I know he is still alive on video, which really makes me feel they are still around when I watch them.

Today's high was after joining a photo group run by the BBC yesterday finding two out of the five photos I added were on the hour long TV programme they are used for. You don't expect your photos to end up on TV, although there is a site on Sky TV where anyone can send a video clip which is shown if 'decent' as long as you pay them a little for it. As I haven't got that channel I didn't think it was worth it. Maybe the BBC will do that next?!

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. What makes it much sadder is that it need not have happened. Jane found a 'dimpling' in her breast some years ago and didn't see her doctor about it for many months, perhaps even a year or more. When she finally asked about it the cancer had really taken hold and she lost fifteen lymph nodes as well as having a mastectomy. She then refused chemotherapy.

Towards the end of last year she was getting symptoms in her stomach and again, she didn't seek help for months. She knew it would mean various possibly unpleasant tests. She finally saw a doctor just before Christmas and they started chemo after Christmas in the hopes of shrinking the tumour. After two courses of chemo the tumour had in fact grown. She had surgery but the cancer returned within a couple of weeks, vigorously. They operated again but to no avail. She died about a week after the second surgery.

So ladies, and gentlemen (breast cancer doesn't care about gender) if you get any breast abnormalities for goodness sakes get it looked at as soon as possible - then take the treatment on offer.

High point of yesterday was, hands down, a surprise phone call from across the pond. Lovely thing to happen on an otherwise "routine" Ohio morning. It definitely made my day .

Low point? Yikes ! I'm told a Black Bear has been spotted running loose in my area. Good Lord, is that all I need or what. I have enough trouble getting around (some days) as it is. Now I have to worry about being mauled by a stinkin' BEAR, too? (Aren't those supposed to live somewhere about 10 states from here?)

High - I've just watched my 10 year old grand-daughter take 1st place and a gold medal in a gymnastics competition, and earlier today, my 8 year old grandson captained his junior soccer team and scored two goals!
Low - we returned from a 5 day tour late last night, and found the kitchen lighting was 'kaput'. Turned out to be a faulty swich, which I've now replaced (note: don't ever do this yourself unless you're competent to do so).

This will be a low for awhile for me, I guess. My precious kitty Wanda died this morning.
She was absolutely the sweetest animal I've ever owned, and I've had a lot. In all the time I had her, she never once hissed. She never scratched anyone. (Took some swipes at other cats, but only when they were really bothering her.) She was so very loving. Her favorite thing to do was to just sit watching her people and purring.

She had been abandoned (I think unintentionally) by people who moved out down the street, and then apparently decided we were the people she wanted to live with--every evening when I came home she'd follow me, meowing loudly, to the front door until one night I brought her inside. She climbed right up into the recliner chair, fell asleep, and never left.

I have been blessed with some extraodinary animals, quite the individuals--I could write a really interesting book about some of them. Maybe I will one day.

So sorry to hear about your sweet Wanda, Taesma. It's been a long time for me, but I remember those deep places that losing a beloved pet manages to hurt. My heart goes out to you and all of Wanda's 'family'!

Wasn't that great to have Wanda choose your family as her very own? I'm sure she picked you because she knew she'd be loved like she obviously was. I'm sorry to hear that she's died; I'm assuming it was of old age? She certainly sounded like a wonderful companion. My condolences.

Sorry to hear that Taesma, I've seen a couple pass myself and they were both my best friends. My Lucy was abandoned and turned up on my back doorstep every day after I left out food for another cat here. They know where they want to be and she clearly had a wonderful life as a result.
