Thanks cinnamon and glad your daughter is doing well. Mine is already bored and irritated about having to stay in hospital so I am in for a lot of fun when she gets home. At least it is better than the alternative.

I could get 38 on a maths test provided there were a few hundred questions in it!
The boiler had its last rites yesterday, the bad news is it will be a few days before I have my central heating and the good news is the new boiler is being fitted at cost price and is a very posh one. Then the temperature dropped to single figures last night as it knew. I see ice forming in my bedroom shortly...

This has been a quite tiring week. I worked a full work week, Tuesday through Saturday. Not hard work mind you, but very busy. Happily because the job kept me so busy the days flew by. But, that doesn't preclude me from being on another sleepless jag. In any case, now that this job has finished maybe I'll konk out tonight.
On the bright side, we have finally picked out new tile for the kitchen and carpeting for the family room. Now the hard part is to at last decide on a new counter top. To quartz or not to quartz -- that is the question!
Anyway, glad to be back!
June

Yes, I am the owner of a brand new condensing boiler, one said to save 30% fuel over the normal sort. That has to be seen but it is warm! Worth every penny!

Just notice I've been promoted to Multiloquent! And to make things even better, I think today I've found someone who can install a new quartz counter top. However, that's a question for a different thread
Sounds nice ... we're doing our kitchen next year (or we're getting divorced!! ). Would love to know what you think of the quartz counter and why you choose that one?

Copago, we've been trying to do some research on the quartz. There are some differences and I'll start a thread over in Useful Tips & Tricks for discussion of that subject.
The biggest problem we have is coming to a decision!

Ah yes - I'm just in the thinking stage at the moment and I've got the plan in my mind and thought I had it all worked out. Then last week I was talking to my brother-in-law, who will be doing the job, and he asked what sort of floor covering I want. And cupboards. Yikes ... had thought that far. But I do know I want a big island in the middle and a pot hanger over the top of it and a great pantry off the side.

I haven't looked at this thread for a while, and will look more often as it is one of the most interesting and personal threads of the forums. Cinnamon and Lady1, your stories are appalling but it seems you and your daughters are getting over their traumatic experiences and I hope this continues. My low today was when I was informed of the death two days ago of a close friend. He was my former sailing instructor who taught me the theory for the RYA Yachtmaster course, and with whom I subsequently did a lot of offshore sailing, an interest which continues to this day - as those of you who follow the photo-a-day thread will know! Fred was a great guy, and totally unflappable. He did a lot of youth work right up till he was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas just a couple of months ago. I've been really down since his wife phoned me Fortunately there's also a high of the day, as my 8 year old grandson phoned me a couple of hours ago asking me to take him to see Barnet (Satguru's favourite team I think, as he created a quiz on them) play Mansfield Town this Saturday. He's a very keen soccer player, and had won a couple of tickets, but his dad can't go as he has builders coming. My grandson was delighted when I told him I'd love to go

Sorry to hear about Fred Picqero, pancreatic cancer is usually very quick. Barnet was my nearest team and still not far, and I've been there many more times than any other and you can still park nearby and walk in 5 minutes before the start. Beats all the big clubs nowadays. And as a bonus Arsenal play their reserve games there and you can see many England players for both sides for nothing and about 500 watching. Again, how many people can do that at Arsenal's home ground?
And a little high and low, I just got my highest score on Lord of obscurity but it was still 26 points too low to get a badge...

Sorry to hear of the passing of your Fred, Picqero. You will have wonderful and fond memories of him, I'm sure. I also had a death last week. The wife of my brother passed away from cancer. What makes it the low point of my week was that I wasn't informed until three days later from my niece, by email. Then, a few days after that I got a form letter from my brother. How sad, it was signed Very Truly yours with his first name, middle initial and last name. Geez, like I had more than one brother whose wife was Lee. I suppose since he is 19 years older than myself, he is more an acquaintance than a brother. On the positive side -- today I finalized my countertop! But I'll be without kitchen facilities for 3-4 weeks. I guess it is back to paper plates .

Sorry for you loss Picqero and Jar. So sad when our loved ones pass on but I always think at least their suffering is over.
Enjoy the soccor Picqero. Nice to spend some time alone with your grandson.
My high of the week is my daughter is recovering from her surgery, although she still cannot climb stairs so cant go back to work, she is having work delivered by the driver so she can work from home. Also the insurance will pay her out for her car, which was written off in the accident, so she will be able to purchase a new car once she is able to drive again.

Glad to hear your daughter is on the road to recovery lady1. a And my high for the day -- we've come to a decision and located an installer for our countertop. Yea!!! (But, we'll be without a kitchen for about 3 weeks.) On the low side, as Michael Corleone said, "Just when I thought that I was out they pull me back in." Those durn' Chain Games! ARRGHH!

Probably a high point that only I could really get jazzed about, but I saw Teri Garr (that quirky [and endearing] actress from Young Frankensten and Tootsie, for those unfamiliar) on TV today. She's 61 now and living with MS. What I liked most was her attitude about both the [ahem] disease but about life as well. While I will always think of her as that blonde ingenue, I was impressed at her willingness to appear on a stage in a wheelchair, legs in braces (to assist in preventing blood clots forming in her idled limbs - one of those things most don't even think about, thank goodness). She's also put ON a few pounds ... which I, for one, found encouraging. That could be, I reckon, because she's always in that chair now. But, still, her "light" was still there. And I think that's a good thing to see. Probably the most important thing she can share these days is her balanced sensibility about what life is and what life isn't - and that (with a proper eye and a bit of gumption), things work out just fine as time goes. Low point? Even though I don't have a clue who he even is, I was a bit distressed to hear that this Dumbledore fellow has been -um- "outed"? Seems kinda rude. A fictional somebody in a series that's over with! Isn't that like talking about somebody when they're not there to defend themselves? Not that world peace hinges on the details of Teri Garr OR Mr. Dumbledore, mind you ....

Question. How many emails does it take for a reply? About ten in my experience. I've been firing them off this week and after what I consider a reasonable period from at least 10 only about one has replied. Now even though a few were to celebrities they tend to have a better record than people who I know or used to know, and in fact the lone reply from this duff batch was from one again.
I have never not replied to anything sent from someone I know, and nearly all from strangers who are writing to me personally and not to a million others by autobot. What happened to kids learning manners in the olden days?

Eric Clapton didn't reply to a letter I wrote to him last year and I even used a real stamp and paper!
