I saw this movie in my social studies class. We are currently studyin WWII(that's why we watched it). Anyways, did anyone watch this movie? If so what did u think of it? and what did u think of Schindler(the real hero)? This movie was very well done. I got to see first hand how cruel humans can be. I felt like vomiting several time of the horrific images i saw. I also cried at the end of the movie nowing that Schindler really tried his best to get as much Jewish people from the concentration camps. It's really such a sad movie because I know it's not just a movie. It's a tradic time in our history

The movie was very well done but I would recommend that you read the book ... "Schindler's Ark" by Thomas Keneally .... it just goes that little more in depth that books do over movies. Just like the movie, it isn't lighthearted and you may find yourself having to have a break from it. As you said about the movie .. there are parts that are horrific but on the other hand they are things that must be remembered.

It is also interesting to find out what happened to Schindler after the war was over and how the people that he helped were now in a position to help him.

hi there janie_eva02

i studied this book for a' level english when i was at college (many moons ago now... sorry no disrespect moonrockie !!). our lecturer was jewish and her husband was involved in the film making industry in the uk and also knew some of the schindler survivors, but i'm not sure if she knew them directly or indirectly. it was a humbling but at the same time awesome experience. our professor was able to make the situation more real for us by talking about hers and her husbands feelings and also her husband's experiences.

in america, the book was also released under the title of 'schindler's list', whereas in some other countries, it was releases as 'schindler's ark', so you may find that it is called 'schindler's' list in your country.

if you would like, i still have all the literary comments in my book, so if you would like to discuss it in those terms, i would be more than happy.

keneally used many different methods to bring the story of schindler to light: imagery, irony, comparison...

the bit i like best is that i share a birthdate with schindler, i keep thinking that that must mean something - maybe i have a penchant for women and i dont' know it yet - LOL !!! [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Schindler's List was an excellent film. It's kind of funny, though, how nobody in Hollywood has seen fit to produce a film about the 7 million people deliberately starved to death in the Ukraine holocaust by Stalin and his Jewish buddy Kaganovich. It's also strange how that episode never gets much coverage in the history books.

actually, it's not funny at all.

Hollywood has always been about the bottom line.

In fact, Spielberg had to make Jurassic Park before the studio would allow him to make Schindler's List.

Everyone thought that it would be a flop.
little did they know it would achieve Oscars and box office success.
There's a little history on this fine movie.

Steven Spielberg is truly one of the great directors of our time.

his decision to shoot the movie in black and white proved to be a correct one.

Ralph Fiennes (pronounced ra-fe fi-nes)
was a perfect fit as the Nazi German sadist.

This movie was about two things for me.
the first being the end when he realized that he could've and should've done more. Liam Neeson was great here...and Ben Kingsley consoling him.

and the second thing was the only color in the movie. the little girl with the red coat.
this was done to make you identify with her.
then when you saw her dead...it really hits home.

that is great movie making...
casting, scripting, screenplay, directing, acting.
it's all here.

Shoah...

Schindler's List still gives me nightmares.
As a piece of art, it is so disturbing.
yet, so uplifting at the same time.

John Williams score was phenomenal.
Yithzak Perlman playing the theme song never fails to bring a tear to the eye.

in the book, the girl in the red coat is called 'red genia'(i think i've spelt it right and i think it's pronounced gay-nee-yar).

i love the way that thomas keneally uses imagery and irony in the book, 'red genia' being one of them. in the book, keneally says:
quote:
genia survived the week, however, through her precocious gift for maintaining silence and for being invisible in scarlet.
she is my favourite character - you'd never guess it would you ?!

i love that schindler is not a stereotypical hero, he didn't start out with the aim of saving lives, rather as an entrepreneur. he just ended up saving people as the war progressed - a real hero, altho he would never have seen himself that way.

i am really touched by characters like pfefferberg, who went on to tell the story to keneally and to fight to have the film made - that they had to fight to have their voices heard even after the war makes me want to cry - after all they went through.
