This is my favourite recipe for barbecue sauce.

1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup dark steak sauce
1/4 cup sugar (I only use about 1/2
this amount)
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1 chopped clove garlic.

Mix all ingredients together and let stand for one or two hours to blend flavours.

The one that comes to my mind is A1. There may be others out there, but I don't know them by name.

HP or A1 - either one will do or something similar. They are kind of like ketchup, only thicker and darker

And not made with tomatoes. Or at least, I don't believe HP is.

Barbeque sauce:this is a chinese recpe but is delicious with all kinds of pork-

2 teaspoons of sesame oil
1tablespoon of dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons of rice wine or dry sherry
1 crushed clove of garlic
1 tablespoon of brown sugar but diabetics can use an equal measure of fructose

Rub the sherry into the pork pieces and marinate overnight.Next day mix all the other ingredients and leave for at least 4 hours. Baste frequently with the marinade asyou barbeque

Lower-fat/lower-cholesterol Alfredo sauce:

The thickening comes from the flour vs using the traditional heavy cream.

3 tbs. margarine
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 1/2 cups skim milk
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg - I cut this down to just a 'pinch' because I don't care for that much, it overwhelms the flavor in my opinion
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Melt margarine in medium saucepan and stir in flour.
Cook over medium heat one minute, stirring occasionally.
Stir in milk and heat to boiling.
Boil, stirring constantly, until thickened, 1 or 2 minutes.
Reduce heat to low and stir in cheese, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Cook 1 to 2 minutes.

This recipe makes 4 servings, about 1/2 cup each, but easy enough to double, etc., for however much you'll need. Of course, you can play around with the seasoning also and add other ones you might like or normally use. I always add just a bit of garlic powder to mine and often throw in some cayenne pepper to spice it up.

If memory serves me well, I believe the main ingredient in HP is dates. Can't have baked beans without HP sauce. Alas, I can't buy it here.

HP Sauce is a condiment; a popular brown sauce formerly produced in Aston, Birmingham, England, by HP Foods but now produced by H.J. Heinz in Elst, the Netherlands. It has a malt vinegar base blended with fruit and spices, and is usually eaten as an adjunct to hot or cold savoury food, or used as an ingredient in soups or stews. It is the most well known brand of brown sauce in the United Kingdom and Canada as well as the best selling, with 71% of the UK market.[1]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_Sauce

AND from http://www.hpsauce.co.uk/

"Sharp, musky Malt Vinegar, sweet Molasses, rich Dates and some other exotic specialties are blended together"

There's a link in there (on their FAQ page) if you can't find it in your grocery store, they may be able to help you find some (although it may not be available in the states).

Since we are in the midst of the Holidays, I thought we could share some of our favorite recipes. I see friends posting and 'pinning' on Facebook - how about we share some of those yummies here as well?
