ladylmk58, ktstew, Tredici, and looney_tunes must be from my era--I fondly remember all those shows, although I didn't care much for Ed Sullivan and somehow missed The Amateur Hour even though I liked it. (I was lying awake in bed when the Beatles debuted and called out to ask my parents what all that noise was. Mom came into my room and said it was just some foolish young people and for me to go to sleep.)
Long before the best part of waking up was Folger's in my cup (I actually despise Folger's brand.) the best part of waking up was hearing the violins playing Captain Kangaroo's theme song. If I made it out to the living room before they ended, my day was off to a great start. When Robert Keenan died a few years ago, my children were all still home and I insisted they watch video clips with me of golf balls falling on Mr. Moose's head. I wrote the good Captain a fan letter once and he sent me back a color postcard of the Treasure House, along with a Kellogg's coupon.
The only show I would add was Fireball XL5, which my brother and I thought was the coolest and most sophisticated Saturday morning program.
