My friends and I always discuss the shows that we watched as children. It seems that today's television for children has changed dramatically from what was broadcast when we were little. We reminisce about these shows almost every day, and have compiled a list of shows we truly miss, even if they are sometimes still played today.
Some of the shows are (there are many more): Loony Toons, Captain Planet, Fraggle Rock, Garfield and Friends, Gummi Bears, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Rocko's Modern Life, Doug, Angry Beavers, Two Stupid Dogs, Dexter's Lab, Scooby Doo, Thundercats, Sea Lab 2010, and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Which childhood shows do you miss?

There was a show here called Simon Townsends Wonder World that I always seem to bring up when we talk about older shows. (It was also the start of Johnathon Coleman's career for the Brits who've seen him.)

I could probably go on forever. I especially agree with Looney Tunes, Captain Planet, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Rocko, and Two Stupid Dogs. Besides those, I fondly remember Voltron, G-Force (aka Gatchaman), Dragonball Z, Reboot, Franklin, Little Bear, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Cartoon Planet, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Guts, Noozles, The Adventures of the Little Koala, The World of David the Gnome, Heathcliff, Underdog, Salute Your Shorts, Figure it Out, and Super Mario Bros. I could continue, but will stop at 20 to avoid being here all night .

You are so right, Lauren. Shows have really changed! Of course, this change is constant and your list (I envy your youth ; )is much different than mine of a generation earlier. Loony Tunes is an enduring classic, ditto The Three Stooges. However, the Terry Tunes of my youth featuring Mighty Mouse-even this cat lover has to admire his KOs over the tabby villains-was great. (Mighty had a much lower profile than Mickey but a much hotter girlfriend, I recall). Another Terry Tune was Heckle and Jeckle (what that zany pair could do with a boxing glove on a spring inside a giftwrapped box..ahhh.) I most miss some great Westerns..the 30 minute Saturday am morality play where the bad guy always lost...Tales of the Century, Lone Ranger, Wild Bill Hickock, Rin Tin Tin and even the sappier Roy Rogers and Gene Autry shows. Superman was great decades before Hollywoodland jaded us and the quaint spaceman shows were cool to this kid of the B&W TV era!

I miss "The Muppet Show" . I loved that show as a kid, still do actually. I also loved those old Hannah Barberra cartoons like "Captain Caveman" and "Grape Ape." I think those came out when I was too young to pay attention because I remember watching them in re-runs. Oh, and "Scooby Doo", I still have an original stuffed Scooby from when I was a toddler.
As a teenager, I loved "Tiny Toon Adventures", "Animaniacs" and "Pinky and the Brain."

Many of you have named shows that I watched when I was younger. Lately, I've been wishing over and over that Loony Toons would return to Saturday mornings, but I guess the reality of it is that little kids today want Spongebob more than they want Bugs. Future generations will never nibble on a carrot and say, "Ah, what's up, Doc?" That...is almost heartbreaking. Oh well. Even more shows: Duck Tales, Talespin, Pepper Ann, Goof Troop, and The Addams Family.

This discussion is bringing back so many memories. I have a huge soft spot for early 80s to early 90s kids shows. Most of my favorites have been mentioned, but to add, I always loved The Snorks, The Shirt Tails, Darkwing Duck, Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers and You Can't Do That on Television. Anything from Nickelodeon from it's beginning until around 1992 is probably on my list o' favorites. I used to watch TV more than anybody I know, haha.

I'll sum it all up by basically naming channels.
Almost all the shows that had big syndication deals on the Disney Channel and UPN (pre-Moesha) between 1987 and 1992. And literally every last thing on Nickelodeon.
I was also a huge fan of The Care Bears.

I didn't watch much TV in my childhood - for starters we had a black and white TV, and I always used to be reading or playing with my dolls. But Play School (with Big Ted, Little Ted, Jemima the rag doll. Hamble the hard plastic doll and Humpty Dumpty - he was always my fave ) I loved, with Rainbow (Bungle Zippy and George ) was close behind. Sesame Street - yes I watched too

Couldn't get enough of the Bugs Bunny-Road Runner movie when I was a kid, especially the last hour of it. Pure slapstick at its most cruel. Had me and my friends in tears of laughter.

I lived in in rural NSW when I was a child and we had only 2 television stations, so my choices were limited. I remember: The Magic Boomerang and Adventure Island (both Australian shows), as well as Rifle Man, Davy Crockett and F-Troop. Whenever we visited family in Melbourne, I was able to watch the Magic Circle Club, The Munsters, The Addams Family, I Dream of Jeannie and so many others - it was like Christmas for me!

Well, as my childhood wasn't that long ago, i still manage to find most of my favourite TV shows, playing on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. I used to get up early in the morning to watch Cheez TV (Channel 10 for Australian residents), and watch Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z before i went to school. I remember though, aged about 5, watching hours of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Still watch it now ), Scooby Doo, Postman Pat, Thomas The Tank Engine, Noddy, Captain Planet, Power Rangers, Sesame Street and basically whatever else was on. When i was a little kid, we never had the 'bands' like The Wiggles and Hi-5, even though i watch them now
