All Saints church, Hertford - our county town. Built in the late 19th century after the old church was destroyed by fire. There's been a church on the site since the mid-7th century, and it's mentioned in the Domesday Book!

When I was walking out to the lighthouse the other day I stopped to take this photo at the former lighthouse keeper's cottage. This is the most south-westerly washing line in Britain. I am sure they must have thought me slightly batty to be taking a photo of the washing.

I remembered RMG and Sue's pictures when I saw this today, so here's some more blossom while it's out.

Not too many flowers out yet here, my Dafs are just coming up but at the local conservatory at our city park there is this beautiful display.

This is Lucky having his monthly bath. He really doesn't like it and while I post this, he is sitting in the cat's basket sulking and giving me dirty looks.

Winston feels the same about baths as Lucky does! The look on Lucky's face says it all!

It was a lovely day again, but I didn't go anywhere but shopping, so here's one from the park yesterday. This is a rather uncomfortable chair, carved (hacked?) from the stump of a tree.

Went to the local rodeo today and this was the best photo from it. Apparently the bloke was okay. [image][/image]

In the villages around here there are many abandoned houses. My friend found this lamp inside one of them and with a clean up and a lick of paint it looks nice. I am hanging it in the garden.

Osteospermum are wonderful plants, they don't seem to care how wet or dry it is, they just grow and grow. They self-seed too; I planted just two of these in my front garden, transplanted one self-seeded (top right) and yanked up many more.

Continuing my theme of local churches, this is St. Mary's, Ware - a couple of miles north of where I live. It's a historic building, rebuilt in the 14th C by Joan of Kent, known as 'The Fair Maid of Kent, wife of the Black Prince. It was enlarged in the 15th C by Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII.
That's the history lesson, and now here's the picture.

I watched the Blue Angels do a show today. Right after I took this picture one of the planes hit a tree and crashed. The pilot was killed.

Here's another one from my walk in the park the other day. That's the Bay Bridge to "the County". You can see we haven't too many leaves on the trees yet.

Obviously you weren't joking about a subject as serious as this, so you should also send a high definition image to the air crash investigators, as there may be something there which could help in the investigation. If you haven't their address, I'm sure the show organisers will be able to forward it.

Thought I'd take a photo of my bike because it doesn't often look as clean as this. I fitted a new chain and rear cogs last week because the chain broke. Today I fitted some new disk brake pads and spruced up the whole bike. Despite its non mountain bike additions, it is mostly ridden off-road. I think some mountain bikers sneer at mudguards and a saddle bag. I don't see the point of getting muddy water sprayed up my back and over my legs. I also need something to carry tools and my lunch in.

While we're on the subject of off-road biking, here's one of my favourite tracks through the local woods!

I'm staying at home today, so here's a photo from a recent trip to London

The corner of Cornhill and Bishopsgate is the highest point in the ancient City of London - all of 60 ft (18 metres) above sea-level, and the corn-goddess Ceres appropriately scatters corn over the City from a parapet above. I have been at this crossroads literally thousands of times, and I never knew she was there until a question about the statue turned up in a quiz a few years ago (nobody else knew it either).

My niece was visiting from Toronto for the weekend, and we have just seen her off at the train station. Here's her train, just pulling in.
