The best movies i have ever seen would be: Benny & Joon, Interview with the Vampire, Pirates of the Carribean, and the recent movie Cabin Fever. If you havn't seen either of them, Id really suggest them. Especially Cabin Fever with Rider Strong. It's probably the best scary movie in years.

I'll go with a list of genres, too, with some comments.
Drama: "Citizen Kane." A cliched choice, I know, but it's great. Comedy: A very hard choice. Maybe "Duck Soup" as the best of the Marx Brothers. Western: I don't see too many, so let's go with "Shane." Historical: "Barry Lyndon" -- I felt like I was transported back in time War: "All Quiet on the Western Front" -- still powerful. Adventure: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" -- one of the best of the modern blockbusters. Suspense: "Psycho" -- I would have called it "horror" but I'll limit that to films with some element of the supernatural. Horror: "The Haunting" (original version, of course!) Musical: Again, I don't see too many; let's pick "West Side Story." Animated: "Yellow Submarine." Groovy, man! Fantasy: "Brazil" (for lack of a better category in which to place this stunning film.) Science Fiction: "2001: A Space Odyssey" -- my favorite film of all.

The best movie I ever saw was probably Pirates Of The Caribbean. I saw it when it was in the cinemas and I'm not sure whether or not it's been released on dvd or video yet, but it was a truly funny, captivating and adevnturous movie. Johnny Depth was fantastic (and funny) in it, and the rest of the cast, however famous or unknown, were brilliant. I also enjoyed the Scream trilogy. Though, I must say, number 3 didn't have as much suspense and killing in it compared to the other two, but it ended with an intigueing twist anyway.

Oh my gosh, moosey, I always thought the same thing about Tim Curry in Rocky! Every time I watch the scene of Dr. FrankNFurter's entrance, I get chills.
My favorite movie of all time is "The Piano" with Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel.

The best movies I have ever seen are probably not everybody's favorite movies, but here I go: Eddie and the Cruisers Scream Goldfinger Pirates of the Caribbean Rose Red Practical Magic Simply Iressistable Urban Legends 1 Don't Say A Word Cabin Fever The Ring Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade Stigmata Ghost Ship Haloween Aww. I really liked Cherry Falls. I thought it was really good. Gory parts were good. The concept was good. I would have to add it to my list. I think that it just depends on the person watching I guess.

I'll follow SkyValley, an obvious Johnny Depp fan (yay!), and I agree with all of those listed. But to add (and my taste in movies run around all over the place...)>>>
A Streetcar Named Desire Cries And Whispers American Beauty Fargo Tootsie The Deerhunter Nashville The Last Picture Show Dangerous Liaisons The Stunt Man Good Will Hunting Secrets And Lies
(among others...)

I have just re read this whole thread, and no one has once mentioned what, for me and many others, is the Film of all Time: On The Waterfront It has been said that Brando's performance is an acting clinic. So many performances after it were full of the influence of his brilliance in this film. When I first saw it in the 50's I was so overawed I watched it every night for over a week. No acting has ever come close , in my opinion. It has been criticized for Kazan's direction as it is said that it is a vehicle for his remorse. But that is as nothing compared to the performance of Brando. Lee J Cobb , Karl Malden, Rod Steiger and Eve Marie Saint were all incredible. No modern movie comes close.
