When I'm down in the dumps and need cheering up, for me these are absolute essential songs:

- "Alright" by Supergrass
- "Build Me Up" by The Foundations

Absolute must-haves! What are yours?

Many are the childrens songs I described in the earlier thread, some remind me of singing them at school, others I heard since on the radio but they are often far more uplifting than much conventional music. I also like all the jazzed up Morris dances mainly made popular by Ashley Hutchings and Mike Oldfield. Technically not songs as instrumental but have the same effect.

We got an incredibly comprehensive collection, and although it probably belongs in the confessions thread I did also buy a couple of CDs of them. Who needs memories, why not just listen to them again properly? original thread

If you can add any more, please let me know. I may have forgotten a few.

I like "The Hampster Dance" song. My daughter was playing it one time and I asked her what it was. I don't know why, but it always cheers me up! Maybe because it's such a silly song!

Fields of gold - sting

It's not so much a cheer up song, but it's very relaxing and makes any bit of stress go away instantly.

These songs make me laugh without fail:

Life at the Outpost - The Scatt Brothers
Billy, Don't be a Hero - Paper Lace
Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep - Middle of the Road
Dizzy - Vic Reeves & The Wonderstuff

Doesn't matter, will laugh anytime I hear these songs!

A Little Less Conversation by Elvis Presley always puts me in a good mood. Probably because it's the theme song for my favorite TV show Las Vegas.

hi all
when i was the freshman student in charge of the capehart music room at reed college back in the 1950s, i used to ask folks whether they were depressed and wanted to continue depressed--if so, i played the kindertotenlieder of gustave mahler. but if they wanted to consider the possibility of getting out of their depression, i would play the osanna part of bach's b minor mass.
which with those trumpets and exciting music playing make it hard for me anyway to stay sad. i must say that it often worked.

There are many, but the song which comes immediately to mind is Always look on the bright side of life
The original version, in the Monte Python movie 'Life of Brian', was somewhat controversial but was soon picked up and sung by Soccer fans and others.
We saw and heard it a couple of weeks ago in the musical 'Spamalot', and it had the whole audience singing along in the chorus

Yes and the Monty Python March too...
The National Anthem of China is jolly( don't laugh).
The 1812 always gets me conducting and 'pompompomming'.Those are the first three to spring to mind
