Many are the childrens songs I described in the earlier thread, some remind me of singing them at school, others I heard since on the radio but they are often far more uplifting than much conventional music. I also like all the jazzed up Morris dances mainly made popular by Ashley Hutchings and Mike Oldfield. Technically not songs as instrumental but have the same effect.

We got an incredibly comprehensive collection, and although it probably belongs in the confessions thread I did also buy a couple of CDs of them. Who needs memories, why not just listen to them again properly? original thread

when i was the freshman student in charge of the capehart music room at reed college back in the 1950s, i used to ask folks whether they were depressed and wanted to continue depressed--if so, i played the kindertotenlieder of gustave mahler. but if they wanted to consider the possibility of getting out of their depression, i would play the osanna part of bach's b minor mass.
which with those trumpets and exciting music playing make it hard for me anyway to stay sad. i must say that it often worked.
