'lurvin'???

what's that??? (the Lord wonders)

anyhoo...

Natalie Portman is hot...
yeah...she's a Havard junior.
and a Jew, to boot.

A friend of mine, who is coincidentally also a Jew, was a senior at Harvard when she was a freshman.
He saw her being turned away from bars...
ya know in Boston the legal drinking age is 21.

ah...you mean lovin'??
I suppose, but Lucas ain't gonna get risque.
he sucks too much as a writer and director.

Hey, I loved Episode 1. I might be the only one here, but I thought it was very good. I also have a sick fascination with Darth Maul. Anyway, I am very much so looking foward to Episode 2. It looks really actiony. I also happen to like George Lucas. I really liked Willow. Anyway, that is all!

good for you snuggles.

I think that Star Wars certainly defined the sci-fi action adventure genre.

wonderful CGI.

I just think (and this is just my opinion) that it is light on script and plot.
and there are some horrible characters.
Take Jar Jar Binks...made black mad.
The Trade Conferderation...made Asians mad.
this list goes on.

Don't worry, I will always love Star Wars.
However, it ain't Casablanca.
although it is unfair to compare the two.
different genres.

Yeah you really can't compare those two. I liked Jar Jar and he was played by a very funny, talented black man, but I don't think he was in anyway making fun. Why were people mad about the Trade Federation?

they were Asian stereotypes.
economic powerhouse
spoke in that halting english with a heavy accent.
I know that it was not intentional
but Lucas must be more sensitive about these things.

and, of course, the whole, being controlled by a powerful white man and looking like idiots didn't help.

Lol. No I don't guess that would help would it. I see what you are saying and I don't think he would have done that intentionally. I didn't notice it, but now that you said something you are right.

Hi LordAndry, Snugglesgirl

I read in the Sunday Times magazine yesterday that once Lucas has completed these three Star Wars films, that he will be quitting - that he will be passing the responsibility for the last three films on to somebody else.

There seemed to be an assumption that they will be written/produced/directed on a low budget using unconventional techniques.

Wonder who will take on that mantle - Lord Andry, would you be interested, or perhaps Snugglesgirl..? [Wink] [Big Grin] [Confused]

I personally didn't like The Phantom Menance that much.
The Attack of the Clones sound much more better because when I was searching for info on the movie, I accidently read the spoiler to the whole movie! [Frown] Now it's not a surprise.. [Frown]
Well, from what I read it sounds like the storyboard is much better and the plot comes more into play from what I remember. Hopefully it is as good as it sounds and not like the first one. [Big Grin]
Next time I'm going to have to watch what I click on!! [Smile] [Big Grin] [Roll Eyes]

Okay, first off, I am looking forward to Ep.II, it looks great. From what I've heard the end battle is fantastic and seeing Yoda in action is worth the price of admission. Anyways, it's got a Fett in it so you can't go wrong.

As for one gripe someone had about Episode I, focussing on the 'accents.' Any dialect when speaking another language (e.g. English) always has an accent. Whatever language the trade federation goonies originally spoke must have odd pronounciations, making them sound 'asian.' I don't think it was a stab at any particular asian dialect. For there to be proper satire, we would of had to have something to compare it to, we don't. Saying the accents should offend aliens is like saying Jar Jar Binks should offend Jamaicans. Just because some similarities are there doesn't mean there is any offense given.

OR IN SHORTER TERMS

STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE IT'S ONLY A MOVIE!!!

I agree. If people wouldn't go looking for things to be offended by there would be no problem. Lucas didn't intentionally do it.

I'm looking forward to it too. Like most of you, I think "Phantom Menace" was by far the weakest in the saga. I think that Lucas had kind of painted himself into a cinematic corner on that one. He had to spend too much of the movie establishing characters and there roles in the "Star Wars" universe. It being the first of the prequels he had to tie in all the story lines and give us a sort of history of the whole thing. Because of this, the story seemed jerky and disjointed at times, and the whole thing didn't seem to have a cohesive flow. Now that all of that is out of the way, I hope "Attack" can fly like the first three did. Also, in "Phantom" it really seemed like Lucas and his whole team were so obsessed with the technical aspects
of making the film that they sort of neglected the
human story-telling part of it. Oh, and I really hope that JarJar Binks has had some speech therapy .
Every time he spoke in "Phantom" I felt like throwing something at the screen!

Vanyar--don't yell--I can hear you just fine. [Smile]

LordA hit the nail square on the head--The Phantom Menace stinks.

I sure hope the new one is far, far and a galaxy better. I love the original trilogy--and I hated that sorry prequel. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!! [Big Grin]

snugglegirl, you're right--hate is Too strong and I should never have said it. I really did not like the Phantom Menace--that's what I should have said. Sorry.

Don't take it personally if someone disagrees on a movie, book--anything else, OK? It just means we all like different things.

Why, no, of course you are not the only one who loved it--millions of people Loved The Phantom Menace--it grossed, what, over half a billion dollars? But I'm just not one of them.

Episode I grossed over $350 million in the US domestic market.
it went over $1 billion worldwide.
pretty impressive.

It's tough to be Star Wars.
Too much to live up to.
I love the mystique, but there were many unlikable qualities about Episode I.
I was looking for a plot and there wasn't one.
I was looking for a good script and blah.
I was looking for good acting...nada.
I was looking for chemistry...fizzle.

honestly, I think that if we critique the movie, we can all find bad things.
But it's kinda like 'who cares?' its Star Wars.

so who is wrong and who is right?
no one...it doesn't matter.
It's just entertainment.

I understand all that. Here is my point. Episode 1 was the beginning to ALL Star Wars. They couldn't just throw you into a galactic problem without giving you a background. It is very cool to see how everything started and how it came to be.

The only bad actor I saw was Jake Lloyd. He was horrible. Other than that I thought everyone did a good job.

A plot. It did have a plot. The Trade Federation blocked trading to Naboo. They were going to negotiate. They sent some Jedis, things went out of hand and boom! There you are. That is your (very brief and basic) plot. Everything happened for a reason.

My personal favorite part was the Duel of the Fates. I just love Darth Maul. I am hoping the new villan can live up to him.

and you thought that was a good plot? wow...
I expect more...much more.
again, the high expectations.

I could have come up with that.
it's been done...good vs. evil.
we want to see something new.

you're kidding about the acting, right?
there were good actors in the film, yes,
but the acting sucked.
most of that was George Lucas' fault
he directed it and everyone knows that he cannot direct worth a damn.

the whole not knowing the background?
how can a true Star Wars fan not know the background?
I know the background...
I read the websites and books on it.
this info is not hard to figure out.

the film playing it was just not up to spec.

and it's not really the beginning.
The true beginning of Star Wars begins
waaaaaay in the past in a galaxy far, far away.
when there was a big bang
then years pass, then cells begin to form.
then humans...then space travel...

sorry [Big Grin]

I couldn't resist.
the nine epsidoes track the important years about the Skywalker clan and little else.

much else goes on.
One of my favorites is the Rogue Squadron series.
check it out at a bookstore near you!!

Man you are picky. I may have to kick you with my Pradas. [Wink]

Yes good acting and plot. I didn't say I was a true Star Wars fan. ( Im not a fake one but I am not a Die Hard.) Yes good vs. evil has been done but it is what we like.

Now, if you will excuse me I need to quit goofing off and get back to work. [Razz]
