Anyone else take part in the national IQ test tonight on BBC1? Questions were very tricky but I surprised myself and came out with a higher IQ than expected! Kids and husband did well also. It was interesting viewing anyway and mad ea change from the usual Saturday night viewing. [Big Grin]

Buffy - yes I did it too. I thought my IQ would be in the 90s, but I too was higher than I thought. However not as high as the man with the IQ of 149 - amazing!!!

I hadn't realised it was on until it actually had been running a few minutes, I didn't have time to grab a pen and paper but was doing just fine then my mother telephoned and I couldn't do any more. They did say it is on the Internet if anyone is interested, if anyone is interested it is still there now - click here, you can still take the test as at Sunday. I might give it a go but not sure if it will still be accurate as I watched the results - mind you my weakness is my short term memory, it always was even when I was at school, I found memorising things impossible, learning theories and the way things worked was much easier.

Well, Sue, I just took the IQ test. My internet connection cut off while I was taking it, so I don't know if it sent or not. Anyway, I'll let you know how clever you Brits judge me to be!

.......I feel like such a tool........the internet cut off at one point and I didn't realize it until I went to send it when I was finished. Nonetheless, they sent me back my IQ score which was 93! Excuse me, I'm going to study.......

OK real bad results compared to what I usually get in IQ tests. I got 108 but whenever I do other IQ tests ( usually American which is different scoring wise, I think ) and Mensa tests I usually average 127-130. Is the British scoring system different or am I getting dumber??

I didn't get a chance to do the French version, but as these tests are culturally biased, they often give false results for different people.
I did buy an IQ test CD recently and tried it. I'm a 98!
I mean, I didn't even pass the 100 barrier?
However well I do in French, and I've won French people in Scrabble who are fanatics sometimes, I don't think like a Frenchwoman (thank Goodness for small favours!) therefore, the cultural bias is just enough to skew the 149 I deserved, huh?

I'm thinking it might be that hair frosting job I had a few months ago, they apparently had a team of Blonds take the test.

Perhaps I lost a few points there!

Another thing I thought was really creepy on the CD was that you had to remember facial features about a drawing. wrinkles, smile, hair, and a name. I'm good at this normally, but this time, they used the same drawings for different names in the next exercise!
Funny as that's the thing I'm known for in real life, and on the test, it wasn't good as I remembered the drawing from the last test, ie a long haired guy named Jean-Paul Belmondo, and then they'd give him another name in the next one!

So I try not to let it bother me.

We've had a national IQ test on television twice by now. Both times the results were not really accurate. Not to say that I wasn't pleased with my score of 147 [Big Grin] ! We had a famous (at least here he is) boxer taking the test and he scored only 80. Now I guess boxing really does damage your brain cells, but that much??

I think the results can differ a lot depending on whether you took the test on the internet or via the television...

By the way, an example of cultural bias, in Hawaii most kids haven't seen suits very often in everyday life, so when asked what the man was wearing in the picture, they'd say, "Aloha shirt".
This for them is what men wore for funerals, weddings and formal occasions.
THe answer was marked wrong, but Hawaiian children aren't less intelligent. You see?

I agree with Buffy1 - very entertaining viewing - much more pleasing to be doing something with the grey matter than just zombie-ing through another Casualty.

Anyone notice (or suffer - if that's the right choice of word) from the "Age Band" threshold? I came in with a very respectable score (but below lo78) but had i taken the test two months later i would have fallen into a different band and - hey presto - my IQ goes up 7 points !!?!

Now someone explain that to me!

Anyway genius i may be but it didn't stop the beloved Ipsich Town from being relegated from the Premiership .... perhaps that adversely affected my score ... [Wink]

I hope no one thinks my IQ really is as high as 147...! It was just an example of how unprecise the test in Dutch television was.
