Anyone remember the post I made yonks ago about playing mind games with theh cactus and turning it around so it would grow to the sun and twist as it went? Well, here it is It's getting too big now and I think will fall if I turn it anymore though. Will have to start another one.

Well, I was so lazy today that I didn't even take any photos, let alone mow the back lawn! This one is from yesterday, just the leaves coming out on the tree nearest my back door - I'm so happy to see them after the way winter dragged on!

I want to say the bird is a Harpy Eagle, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it was huge. I would not want to tangle with those talons.

Yes this IS Hong Kong, the land of skyscrapers. I don't think I have posted a picture of one yet, though. This is our river, flowing through the village. I spotted a heron on there yesterday. I will catch him next time.

Being the island of cows and locals are known as crapauds (toads) this group of sculptures are rather apt. The calf is looking at a toad, I might post a closeup of that tomorrow.

Prior's Lodge, Battle, where the last abbot lived out his days after Henry VIII grabbed the Abbey - so sensitively enhanced by the next-door petrol station's prices.

Just after Chinese New Year , I spotted this awful pig , thrown out in the rubbish near home. I brought him home as the equivalent of a garden gnome.

There are some interesting houses in this town/city, and I took some photos of a few on my walk today. This one is a few streets over from me, and I quite like the porch.

I'm not too sure what sort of beast this is, but I think it's a bit like a cat. It has probably been surveying the worshippers at Peasmarsh church in Sussex since the twelfth or thirteenth century.

This one is a closer shot at the little calf looking at the toad.

If you click here you will see a close-up of the toad. You will notice people touch it, presumably for luck, and it is showing signs of some wear.

This lovely old house is along side our river and has beautiful gardens. It is called Capt. Kennedy's Tea House. He was the the original owner.

This is a corner of my sister's garden. The carving is my brother-in-law's work.

That is wonderful, Liz. He is very talented.
Here is a chair. It was found on the village rubbish tip, as so many useful things are. We cleaned it up and varnished it and it is now a nice garden seat. Even the lie back bit still works.

Lovely carving, Liz.

Kent and the eastern edge of Sussex used to be the great hop-growing area of England, and brewing with hops was an art we learned from the Low Countries. So maybe I shouldn’t be as surprised as I was to see a Dutch or Flemish epitaph along with the barrels on this brewer’s grave-slab in a country church at Playden, which seems to say “Cornelis Zoctmans is buried here. Pray for his soul.”

This was one of the photos I intended to take when I was in town the other day. We have two Victorian indoor markets, this is the centre of one of them.

Very cheery, bhs!

My brother-in-law is multi-talented - he even cooks! Recently he sold an even larger, more elaborate wood carving, on a Celtic theme, for a very good price. That one I witnessed go from slab of wood to finished product.

Maggie is visiting again today. I think Winston is wondering why I'm lying on my back on the grass...
