I thought I'd seen bad acting before, but the "dramatisations" used in this woeful arts documentary on Dickens could be sold at Sainsbury's cold meat counter.

"Innovative" claimed the Radio Times, another euphemism for BAAAD ! Ackroyd wheezes around various blue plaques like a consumptive from Dickensian London. If you thought he was a tedious writer, wait until you hear him speak. If I told you Ackroyd was the best thing in this, and the cream of British acting talent is so humiliated they could be outperformed by the first read-through of lobotomised corpses specially reared at high altitudes you will realise the lunatics have taken over the asylum hitherto known as BBC TV.

Geez Ingilby,

Don't sugar coat it tell us what you really thought. I have not seen the show, (bbc broad cast don't quite make it to this side of the pond)

Are you talking about Dan Ackroyd, Canadian comedian "actor?" from the early days of Saturday night live?

Hey War_Wizard!

Not Dan Ackroyd but a chap called Peter Ackroyd who is a writer with an expertise in things Dickensian.

Now Dan Ackroyd presenting it might have been quite entertaining... certainly novel... [Eek!]

In fact I didn't watch the programme as I am always rather suspicious of these documentary/drama things. I personally prefer it when they pick one format and stick with it...
