Where I live there's a newscast on television every day which is especially made for children. Politicians start using easier words and less complex sentences when they are interviewed by a reporter from that newscast, so that children can understand.

Do you have a similar newscast where you live?

What a good idea! And, it probably makes things easier for the adults to understand as well - I know I'd sure appreciate some simplifying in the news broadcasts these days!

We used to have a local show on our station (I'm talking YEARS ago! Like 15 or 20) where the kids, themselves, did the broadcasts. It wasn't long - maybe 10 or so minutes, but it was all done by the kids. Really helped them learn how to be in front of a camera as well as making the news easier to understand for those of us at home.

Linda, I have to admit I love the show, although I'm no child anymore! Whenever I see it's on, I stop doing whatever I'm doing and watch it. And I'm not the only adult doing that, that's for sure! It's about 10-15 minutes long and deals with some "lighter" news as well as the really "heavy" stuff.

I always assumed all other countries had the same show, but then I started wondering, so I thought I'd ask all you guys... [Smile]

In the UK, we have had just such a programme on BBC1 for years (I'm pretty sure it's still on the air).

When i was young, it was called: 'John Craven's Newsround', but after he left the show, I think the name changed to 'Newsround'.

It provides detailed, but simple explanations about the political situation in Britain and the rest of the world. I really enjoyed watching it.

Here's the website for those of you who might be interested: Newsround

There used to be one on Nickelodeon... I forget the name of the show, but it was hosted by Linda Ellerbee...

There is one here that is a weekly show on in the mid mornings and shown to kids in schools mostly. It is excellent and as Lo said earlier about the Netherlands show they use much easier to understand language and sometimes it even clears things up for the adults as well.
