Having revisited the children's song thread I started a year ago I've since dug up many which you often hear at school sung in the playgrounds in many diverse countries, but aren't often on the CDs they make for kids at camp and school music classes. Here is the starting list from my school in the late 1960s, let's see how many we can get this time. Many were sung only by the girls while clapping each other's hands, others to keep the rhythm while skipping. The boys were just mystified observers.

When Suzy was a baby
A sailor went to sea (almost the same tune)
Fish and chips and vinegar
Miss Lucy had a baby
It was 40 years ago, I can't remember any more (clean ones at least) but here's a place that does

How many more can we get this time round?

The boys had poems rather than songs but even at 8 were too rude to refer to here. I'm sure you all know the ones I mean... We had some songs as well, variations of christmas carols and current TV themes. The nearest hint I'll give was the Beverly Hillbillies and leave the rest to your possible memories. Anyone of that era will know exactly what I mean without needing to spell it out and said memories will be revived.

Some rhythm "songs" I remember from my elementary school days are:

Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack
Cinderella, Dressed in Yella
and Bubblegum, Bubblegum in a Dish

There may be others but I can't remember them now.

Great site, Sat! Havne't heard some of those for years.

Wracking brain here but am struggling to come up with many at all. I remember A sailor went to Sea (and will have it going around my head for days now thankyouverymuch ) and Miss Mary Mack.

There was the one about Jingle Bells, Batman smells.
And Little bunny Foo Foo picking up field mice and bopping them on the head.

My son came back from a trip to school singing "Five Brown Monkeys" and did the action for 'mummy rung the doctor' and as acutually dialing a phone. Did my heart good that they weren't taught to push buttons.

Oh, wow, I remember nearly all of the songs posted here, despite the fact that many of us aren't even on the same continent. Isn't that funny. I've never heard of fish and chips and vinegar though--don't think we even knew what fish 'n chips wass!

Miss Lucy was a favorite of ours Now that I think about it though, it really should've been Mrs Lucy, or at least Ms. Lucy :P WHat's a nice little Miss Lucy doing having a baby?!

There were also rhymes that went with jump-roping...not sure if they count as songs though. They're more like chants. I can remember "Strawberry Shortcake" clearl
Strawberry shortcake, cream on top/tell me the name of your sweet-heart/is it a...b..c..d..e..
etc until the jumper messes up. It didn't work so well when we tried to do with weith two people jumping, or when we finally were able to get past 26 jumps in a row. I think we started numbers then, but that doesn't make any sense

Then there were the songs that went with hand-games
Eeny-meeny-sisileeny/ooh-opp-bumble-eeny/atchy-katchy-liveratchy/I hate you...lol. I could go on forever.
