I'm looking for information on the naming practices of Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee in N. Carolina in the 1700s.

I've been able to find very few resources online about Native vision quests or other of their cultural practices. This has to do with a quiz I'm writing, so I'd like to be able to provide more information than vagaries picked up from movies and television.

Thanks for the help!

Still no luck, but I found www.cherokee.org that has a lot of useful information.

LadyC, try looking on cyndislist.com in the Native American section. There are a lot of links there, maybe you will find something useful.
The North Carolina band of Cherokee (Eastern Band) do have their own website (not sure of the url off the top of head, sorry--it's probably on Cyndi's).

In my experience doing some Native research, though, I really didn't find that much cultural information online. Mostly genealogical and current stuff. I found most of my info the old-fashioned way--books. Although come to think of it you might be able to find some public domain books online at one of those sites like Project Guttenburg. I know I've seen some old books copied on some of the Native history sites too, but I couldn't tell you which ones.

Good luck!
