A little bit of background about me, before I begin.
My parents are an odd combination. My father is 100% Maltese, and my mother is half Maltese, half Welsh. This leads to a lot of interesting language skills, especially if both sides of the family come together for a religious holiday. Not that they do anymore. For the first six years of my existence, I lived in Malta, in a large-ish town on the southern coast called Marsaxlokk. It wasn't exactly a bustling metropolis, but it was easily one up from the town my father grew up in, Dingli. My mother's father, the Malteser of her family, was from Lu'qa. I hear they have a lovely airport.
I'm leading on to this. This is possibly the finest website around that illustrates that, even if you were born here of Maltese parents, you can never quite fit in to Maltese society unless you've never, ever left the island.
