A little bit of background about me, before I begin.

My parents are an odd combination. My father is 100% Maltese, and my mother is half Maltese, half Welsh. This leads to a lot of interesting language skills, especially if both sides of the family come together for a religious holiday. Not that they do anymore. For the first six years of my existence, I lived in Malta, in a large-ish town on the southern coast called Marsaxlokk. It wasn't exactly a bustling metropolis, but it was easily one up from the town my father grew up in, Dingli. My mother's father, the Malteser of her family, was from Lu'qa. I hear they have a lovely airport.

I'm leading on to this. This is possibly the finest website around that illustrates that, even if you were born here of Maltese parents, you can never quite fit in to Maltese society unless you've never, ever left the island.

There will be, in due time, a quiz by me to cover the wonderful sights on this site.

I think it's very refreshing! To live a lovely free and easy lifestyle devoid of all regs and with such a laid-back approach to life would suit me fine!

I've been to Malta once - to Valletta, but the shops were closed .....

I'm guessing you were in Valletta on a Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday afternoon, or during one of the thirty-seven religious occurences in Malta that automatically mean the buses stop and all the shops shut for at least a week!

We visited Malta once. We went diving in Gozo, went to see the 'Popeye' set and where they filmed 'The Blue Lagoon'. Loved the city of Valletta and was amazed by the inland sea. Could not believe how hot it was (it was the year that Europe had a heat wave and many people died +- 2004 I think it was).
Pity it is so far away.
