Author Mark Harris, best known for his baseball novel "Bang The Drum Slowly", had died at 84. "Bang" is best known for the movie version starring Robert DeNiro in an early role.

Bang the Drum was and is a wonderful novel. I hadn't heard of Harris' death, but thank you for posting about it. Fortunately, novels live on long after their authors.

Forgot to add this. I was raised as a true Yankee fan (my father wouldn't have it any other way!) and the story, as anyone who has read it knows, is based on the Yankees under the persona of the "Mammoths". My father owned the book and I first read it when I was about 12. Have only seen parts of the movie though.
