Before the other Forum crashed last week, Smokey made a comment that said, "You mean the Wizard of Oz was a BOOK?!" I just have to answer that!!!
Since it is the best series of books in the twentieth century, let's go over our Oz history.
L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books:
The Wizard of Oz, The Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The
Road to Oz, The Emerald City of Oz, The Patchwork Girl of Oz, Tik-Tok of Oz, The
Scarecrow of Oz, Rinkitink in Oz, The Lost Princess of Oz, The Tin Woodman of Oz, The
Magic of Oz, and Glinda of Oz.
After Baum's death, Ruth Thompson took over the series. (There is a school of thought
that she may have written Glenda....)
Since that time, not only has the series been translated in almost every language on earth
(my collection includes Japanese, German and Russian versions), but Oz continues!
There are still - even in 1999 - stories of Oz being written. The authors include a couple of Baum's very own descendents as well as people who just love the books and want them to continue.
So, yes, Smokey! The Wizard of Oz was an incredible book! If anyone hasn't read it,
please do - it is somewhat different from the movie (one of the most-known differences
being the SILVER instead of RUBY shoes), and it is a terrific read for both children and
adults.

"Dorothy"!)
