So what are YOU into?
I tend to get into fiction mostly, especially the "bodice rippers", otherwise known as romance novels. But not always.
Currently I'm about 1/2 way through the new John Saul horror; The Right Hand of Evil. Next up is a book on tape: The new Maeve Binchy; Tara Road.
Occasionally I get into biographies, especially old movie stars.

What are your Favorites??

Fiction.

I love romances, too. What have you read lately that's good?

I love the good (what I call) "heart-tuggers." Ones where you really feel what the characters are feeling. That's one of the reasons I love Jane Eyre. When he proposes, I just melt. And, that ending.... (sigh) That book is great because it takes you through every emotion. You feel such anger at Mrs. Reed. But, such "awwwww" with the Mr. Rochester/Jane parts.

The best romance I remember reading was The Thorn Birds. I read it as a teenager. I wonder if I would like it just as much now.

I'll read just about anything, though I mostly stick to fiction. I am so bad, I kept a book in the car and would read at red lights. I've stopped that now. The honking would get annoying when I was in a good part and didn't notice the light changed. My life has gotten busy lately, but I still average about three books a week. I am watching to see if anything I haven't read is recommended here.

I am also a big reader and love fiction books of all kinds Stephen King used to be my favorite but have been disappointed with some of his newer work. I also like John Jakes and hear he has a new series starting but haven't gotten any of them yet.

I totally agree! I LOVED King for many years, but when he started getting weird (?) it just got too hard to follow. I know that weird is a relative thing with King. Somewhere around the Dark Tower I got lost! But I think some of the latest works are getting back to what I fell in love with.

Hi, Friends... Good to meet people who like to read. As for me, if it's got words on a page, I'll probably read it. I, too, keep books in the car. Some of my fave fiction writers are: Richard North Patterson, Chaim Potok, Hermann Hesse, Jane Austen, and Clive Barker. Non-fiction (not so varied): Karen Armstrong, Moses Maimonides, and Thomas Paine. Hey, Romance friends, have you ever read "The Love Letter"--sorry, can't remember who wrote it. I loved it. If you haven't read it, look for it. A movie was made from it, but I didn't see it.

My first choice will always be non-fiction with a definite edge to true crime stories.
My wife once asked me why I read all those type of books and I told her..."I just want to know where they went wrong, so I don't make the same mistakes."
I also like biographies if I find the subject interesting.
As for my fiction tastes, they fall along the lines of mysteries and suspense thrillers.
I occasionally enjoy good novels though.
I just finished reading Kane & Abel and The Fourth Estate back to back.
Is it me or did the author, Jeffrey Archer, write the same book twice and just change some charaters and settings.

A tip for the King lovers. This probably isn't news to you but Dean Koontz's early works are a good rival to early King.

I tend to read a lot of Sci-fi books, mostly from the Bantam range of Star Wars books. I also read a lot of fantasy and horror books. My favorite author if Dean R Koontz and Shaun Hutson.

I used to love Patricia Cornwell novels but they started to get to be all the same. I used to ove Stephen King novels but they got to be to weird e.g "IT" ( who ever heard of giant insects turning into sinister clowns)
Dean Koontz also started to get boring. Am I just getting desensitized or are there no good authors anymore. If anyone knows of any let me know

It seems that after a certain point with an author it just gets to be too much. I've noticed that with not only Stephen King & Dean Koontz, I also had the same thing happen with Robert Ludlam. For a while I read everything he wrote, but after a while it just got to be too much of a chore to try and follow it.

Although I seem to go in cycles, I always eventually come back to sci-fi.
My favorites are:
Arthur C. Clarke
Isaac Asimov (of course)
Spider Robinson (especially his Stardance books coauthored with his wife Jeanne)
Philip Jose Farmer
Frederick Pohl
Robert Heinlein
Frank Herbert
J.R.R. Tolkien

If anyone could recommend any sci-fi authors or series that they enjoyed I would appreciate it. (Sypher you mentioned you were into sci-fi). I don't tend to branch out too much as I tend to go back and reread stuff I've read and forgotten from the above list. (Short term memory is shot!) I think I've read the Foundation Series about 4 times now, but I enjoy it each time.

Hi GarytheG,

Some good Sci-Fi / Fantasy authors are Kevin J. Anderson , Michael Stackpole, Aaron Allston and the main man Timothy Zahn.

They have all wrote at least one Star Wars book, but they do have other books.
Timothy Zahn is one of the best.

Thsnks Sypher. I got them and will be looking for them the next time I'm at the library/bookstore. I haven't read any of the Star Wars books, but am a huge fan of the movies. I recall reading somewhere just recently (can't remember where) that Chewbacca was getting killed off in one of the books. Do you know anything about this?

That's a load of rubbish....
If you keep to the Bantam range of books..they start with the "Truce at Bakura" which is the following day after Return of the Jedi and carries on 20 years later. Chewbacca is still alive in the last book.

For short stories...you should try and get - Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina or Jabba's Palace or the Bounty Hunters.
