Total waste of money. A twelve year old could have come up with a better design.

I was going to reduce that to some of the 5 year olds in our school.

Oh dear. I can usually find a redeeming feature in pretty much anything, but this has me stumped. It looks like something exploded.
Perhaps the design team were having an angry day?

Check this link. It shows some alternative designs sent to the BBC website. Some of them are very good. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6719747.stm

Me too, or the ones on BBC Breakfast show this morning - all far better. Now that there have been reports of several epileptic seizures from the flashing symbol on the website, they have removed this feature.
Would be great if they did have a rethink, but Seb Coe who arrogantly unveiled the logo earlier this week, was adamant it would stay. Let's hope people power prevails and they come up with something more appropriate.

Nothing surprises me when our local government paid £240,000 for something resembling a flying banana recently, it is all madness. BBC Website story

Or they could have held a competition with a prize of 50,000 Pounds and saved 350,000.

Why did they pick pink? And what is it with that dodgy looking letter here and there? Honestly, with all the creative power in the UK, especially in design, it's mind boggling that this one was chosen.

I think the Jersey logo is much closer to the goal of creating a logo that represents the island and the raised design isn't bad. Aesthetically speaking, it isn't all over the place and it's easy to reproduce. As to the price tag, it's way up there though!
As to the alternative designs for the London Olympics, there's only one that's a contender out of those for me and even them, the open N isn't too nice. It's the simple London with Olympic rings integrated into it.
The pink one is not classy enough. The whimsical ones aren't really classic enough and tightened up in terms of design. Some of them are too complicated to reproduce. You can have some designs for a smaller scale but a design like this needs to be easily reproduced and recognizable.
This is all my own opinion of course. Too bad I wasn't in the running.
I wonder what motivated them to pick out that pink one.

I don't think people from around the rest of the world would understand what it represents! I liked the one with St Pauls in different colours on. I think one of the last 3 in the Daily Mail should win - i.e., the Rip Off one

As Colin said, "£400,000? I guess they saw them coming!" Personally, I think it's a total piece of crap. And believe me, I've stepped in more representative "logos" on my way to work. I also liked Angus Walker's, but I think that James Wren's was very good also. Having actually see the potential replacement logo, which was essentially the word "London" with "2012" being the L, the O, and the N.
I'm also fairly outraged by the advert. With Dag and Gar both having bad problems with night epilepsy, and a friend being quite badly affected by the condition, I think the advert for this logo was disgraceful.

It looks like something I drew back in the early 90s when neon and that was cool.
Maybe the shows "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" or "Saved by the Bell" could have used the logo...
Oh, has anyone found a link to the seuzure-inducing animated version? I'd like to see that, too.

Here's a link to the Chicago story, with a picture of that logo. Very pretty logo! http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/olympics/chi-070516olympics,1,2544628.story

In a Brit world where Tracy Emin is now representing us as its best of British art at a prestigious international exhibition in Venice - what do you expect.
These art critics and design gurus just need a reality check moi thinks.

Gee, good thing Tracy Emin didn't do the logo! I'd reproduce the link to the 'My Bed' picture but, frankly, it might not make the site's guidelines. Gross! Just an 'unkempt' bed, shall we say.
Well, she'd have done it in Scrabble letters like her 'EVeryone I've slept with' piece.
