How about this mind boggler. Why is there thunder and lightning when it rains but not when it snows?

If there is a wall, something is outside it, and something outside that, and so on and so forth... so if we never truley experienced or have seen an end to anything, why is it so hard to fathom the universe as never-ending?

It's been on the radio here, blind people born blind have no concept of vision so dream the way they experience waking life. Otherwise they would be creating a form of something they had no way of knowing. Anyone who becomes blind later in life will dream normally. It's as simple as that. Now they have machines capable of stimulating the brain to see in a limited way people born blind (and deaf for hearing implants) take ages to comprehend the totally foreign images coming in on their new senses. If you see a face for the first time in your life you'll hardly be able to recognise what it is.

Rob, I don't find it hard to believe. I think the universe is infinite.
Here is my mind boggler:
Why are there flotation devices under plane seats instead of parachutes?

Trevor, when responding to older threads could you check first. If you look at robodethbanana's profile you will see he hasn't been on the site since the end of June so it is a bit pointless to address an answer to him. Thanks.

Here is another mind boggler for today:
You know that little indestructible black box that is used on planes, why can't they make the whole plane out of the same substance?

And why are black boxes called black boxes when they are orange?

In response to lady1s post I have ONCE in my life experienced snow with thunder and lightning and that was here in Jerusalem. I suppose you just have to have the right conditions and these must be relatively rare.
Thunderstorms are pretty much the norm in Israel from October to April on and off over the winter months. Although ground temperatures pretty much never get to zero degrees celsius, in the hills where we are (800 metres above sea level) temperatures do fall below zero some hundreds of feet *above* ground level so we get snow some winters, though it rarely sticks for long.
The snowstorm in which I remember seeing lightning was about eighteen years ago and the lightning, a clear fork from sky to ground, was tinged pink and quite extraordinary seen past all the falling snowflakes.

Black boxes are orange to make them easier to find in the event of a crash.

I have no idea lol - maybe they were originally black in "ordinary" planes, used as flight recorders for pilot training or something, then when they realised their use in an accident situation someone had the bright idea of making them orange?

Black box is a commonly used phrase for a piece of equipment that does something somehow but you do not know the details so I suppose it was just applied to the recorders. Also it is alliterative.

Challenges is supposed to be when you know the answer and are testing others, this forum is for when you don't know the answer and want one. It used to be called 'I Need an Answer' but AFT seems to have taken over that role over the years.

NO question has no answer, just you don't accept it. A plane will fly but if it crashes, no parchute will help, a lifeboat may do. So new question what are they putting in Space flies?
