Any other Heinlein fans out there? My husband bought me a compendium of his future series for our anniversary (1st one is paper). It was very interesting getting to read all his short stories that most have never heard of, and all in the proper order. The book was titled The Past Through Tomorrow. For Heinlein fans, it's good stuff.

What is your favorite Heinlein book, and why? Do you have a favorite character?

I am partial to To Sail Beyond the Sunset, which is about Mama Maureen (one of my favorite characters, not just because my middle name is Maureen). I also like Deety Carter (she's smart and sassy!).

I love Heinlein, although i haven't read any for a while. One of my favourites was number of the beast - i thought it was good the way that all the alternate universes were all fictional - just as was their "real" one. A fact which they alluded to. I also liked Stranger in a Strange land.

Number of the Beast WAS interesting. I liked the idea that the farther away from their own universe they went, the more unlike their own universe it became.

When I was growing up, around 11-12 or so, Heinlein was 'The Man' in SF. Liked his older stuff - like 'The Red Planet Mars' (did several things on the planet Mars). "The Past Through Tomorrow" is one of his best; more of an anthology, almost, about the family members along an extended time-line. Great stories in that one.

Moonsong: 'Mama Maureen'? Are you serious???? (Inside joke folks, pardon us a moment.)

I am NOT kidding! Lazarus' mother was Maureen, and she became known as Mama Maureen. I love her character so much, I'm tempted to become known as Mama Maureen when I get older I think you'd like her. Read the book.

I'm a bit startled to know that Robert Heinlein fans are still going strong. Is he still around? I remember reading his books when I was a young tad (late 1950's). Good stuff.

Heinlein passed on back in the late 80's, don't remember which year. I remember reading his books in junior high and high school, and I've read almost everything since then. Short stories and all. He was an extremely intelligent and educated man, as was his wife. I wonder what he would have written about if he were still around.

I have been reading Heinlein since I was 12 or 13, the greatest future history/science fiction writer of them all. If I look over my shoulder right now, I can see every book he wrote, (to the best of my knowledge) any of which I've read at least 10 times over the years. Go for it, Mama Maureen! your're in great company.
