I've always admired Alan Dershowitz, Esq. A Harvard professor, a renouned attorney, a prolific author..but he doesn't 'talk down' to you; no 'legal-ese' from this guy.
I've listened to his book "Contrary to Popular Opinion" for about the fifth time (yep..another book on tape), and still found myself saying things like, 'that's incredible', 'I don't believe it,' etc.
For example...I'll bet that you thought that, when reading a newspaper or magazine, when you saw phrases contained in quotation maeks, you know '"'s, that that represented what the person quoted actually said? Think again.
Do you think that the first amendment to the Constitution, you know, "Freedom of Speech", protects the rights of beggars to panhandle? You may be surprised at what you find out.
Now..why do I prefer books-on-tape over the paper kind at times. Because...if it's an emotional or controversial isue, I think that hearing the author's voice reading his/her own work adds so much to the meaning of the material. To hear Richard Nixon explaaining 'Watergate'..to hear Rick Bragg describe his love for his mother...adds a whole new dimension and depth of meaning that an actor's rendition cannot give.
