I have been a Stephen King fan for many years. Even through the rather dismal phase of Tommyknockers, etc. But I recently saw his bio on A&E and since I have gotten a new perspective on his stories. I have just gotten into "Hearts in Atlantis" and it is great! He has matured into a great storyteller with more beauty in his prose than ever before. I see a lot of his childhood in this story. I never knew his father abandoned his family when Stephen was a toddler and the little boy in this story has no father and is introduced to reading by another, older man. Anyway, it is so good that it has actually kept me off this computer for a couple of days. Anyone else read it? Share, if you'd like with jafonga@aol.com

I haven't read that one - it just wasn't sitting on the shelf in the bookstore saying "buy me", but I really liked Bag of Bones - probably more than I've liked any other books of his.

Hey there. I have been a SK fan for years, and have read everything he's written save for "Hearts in Atlantis", but I think I have to disagree here. I have found that the last few books have been for the most part disappointing ("The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", "Bag of Bones", "The Regulators", etc.), with a few 'vintage King' ones thrown in here and there ("Desperation", "The Green Mile", "Wizard in Glass", etc.). It seems like King has become more mellow and more mature and his writing reflects that, but while I would enjoy these books to an extent by another author, I find that they fall short in what I have come to expect in a King novel. They just don't have the same 'passion' as "IT" and "The Stand" did; I hope he doesn't allow that fire to remain an ember for the next "Dark Tower" book.

I have just read "The Green mile" and Hearts in Atlantis and have to agreee with Cappy that these are great books. They dont have the horror that a lot of his books have but the story telling and the style of writing is fantastic. I couldn't put these down.
So if you are out there somewhere S.K a big thumbs up from Minime is Aus.
