I read this a while back, and I agree. Excellent book!

Welcome to the Book Corner Isis! And thanks for being brave enough to post a new topic! I really like history based fiction, especially historical romances. I think history classes would be a lot more interesting if they could be taught that way!

Thanks for the suggestion Isis. It sounds like a book I would like. Plus a friend has been recommending Wilbur Smith to me for a while now, so I think I will pick this one up soon.

Isis, I loved The River God (I wish I had remembered it in my list of favorites elsewhere in this forum). In case you didn't know, there is a sequel to River God (although set in modern times, and unfortunately without the great main character of The River God). It's called The Seventh Scroll. Not as good, but worth a read.

I f you guys like books that combine a history lesson with good stories i highly recommend Pillars of the EArth by Ken Follet. It takes place during medieval times. It is a looong history lesson too. Almost a thousand pages, and you are still sad when it ends. I learned a ton about "The Church" Cathedral building, medeival war strategies, peasant life....well pretty much any aspect you can think of.

I've recommended The Pillars of the Earth to several people, and almost all of them now consider it one of the best books they have ever read.
