New at your local bookstore! The best selling author JoJo has written yet another computer how-to book for the common man! (you could do it JoJo!) I think I'd like to write a romance novel. One with a suprise sad ending.

Oh Shuttlebunny, how sweet!! Many many years ago I wrote a little story but never showed it to anyone. It went something like this: Once upon a time (an original beginning) Jonathan was playing in the mud as his owner watched with joy at seeing his pal having so much fun. Then Jonathan took to the air swirling and doing all the aerobatics that he is so famous for. As he was flying about the mud started to dry on his feathers making it almost impossible to fly. Down a ways was a beautiful girl flying a kite and saw poor Jonathan struggling for his life. She started running towards him and cought him in the body of her kite and saved Jonathan, and of course she and Jonathon's owner fell in love and lived happily ever after. If you are lucky, one day you might look up in the sky and see a beautiful kite swaying in the air with a very grateful Jonathan flying around it. The End. Kind of dumb, but I was very young when I wrote it and I took a lot more time with details.

My English teacher always said that one should write from experience. If you wrote about your own life (even if it was disguised as being that of someone else)it was credible and knowledgable and much more readable.I love your little story Jojo and I think you must have been keen on kites at the time , or just read something that triggered it off. If you think about Dickens, Austen, Bronte, Eyre, and other 'best' writers they all wrote with a personally experienced background, so maybe my teacher was right. Teachers who give children subjects to write about that they know nothing of eg "The day i went into space" will get boring results. Better let them choose, or something like 'The day I was Lost'Am i right? love ren ------------------

Well I am sort of an aspiring writer. I hope to write science fiction books some day; right now I'm keeping my goals a little smaller with short stories and children's books.

If I were to write a book it would probably be about all the spritual laws that I have leared in this life time. ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

Never did manage to publish a full-length book, but I spent a number of years (now retired, kinda sorta semi-officially... moved into another branch of the arts) writing really depressing and bitter poetry. Found a lot of homes in little magazines, but could never break into the book market. Ah, well. So what kind of book would I write? Most likely a really bitter and depressing book of poetry... <chuckle> R ------------------ http://www.geocities.com/xterminalx installation five: April 28, 2000, Detroit (with Death Squad and Quell) installation six: April 29, 2000, Cleveland (with Death Squad and Quell) installation seven: Summer 2000, Kent, OH (with Luftkanone, Lockweld, Baal, In Death's Throes, and others)

Well I wrote a book once and had it published I was in grade 3 and my teacher got us all to write a story and the best one would be printed up and sold at the school fete. I think though that I would be the only person in Australia with still a copy of that book. Maybe except the boy who did the drawings for it. Each copy sold for 20c and it was about 3 men who went hunting and were frightened by an owl hooting

I like to write sci-fi fantisy drama type books, and I always include my friends and other people I know. I'm not very good at developing characters. My friends are usually reluctant to read what I have written, wondering what kind of things i've done to their characters.

My family and friends hound me for my trip letters after we've been away. Maybe I could expand those. Or, I have been thinking of writing a book about the hairdressers. I go there (directly across the road) every day for coffee and to play cards with the owner. Since most the people who go speak French only, I thought I could come up with something there. I'm taking lots of legal pads with me to Italy to see what I can scribble. It's been a life long dream to be a successful writer and I have a morbid fear that the only work I'll have published reads: For sale, little used computer....

Hi Donnar; kindred writing spirit. My brother and I are toying with the idea of co-authoring a science fiction short story. He's got the technical ideas, whereas I could set up a premise and fill in the details. IF we ever get it written (key word being if), we are going to try mailing or emailing it to some sf magazines and see what happens. Anyone here have any experience with publishing??

"Little guys", JoJo? Why, you're a GIANT!!!! I'm with Sand - does anyone have any publishing stories? Has anyone received a little envelope back in the mail containing only a cheque instead of a bulky envelope containing your manuscript?

I have written poems, short stories, a play and have started two novels. Both of my novels were fictional. The first one was entitled "The Special Court of Robert Warren". It was about this guy that was laying in bed while bleeding to death from a gun wound. He thinks back on his life. All the things that went wrong and the things that led up to the situation he is in at the present. The preface went something like this: Most people have sone something in their life that they are not proud of. There comes a time in their life when they have to answer for what they have done. They are brought before a special court. A special court of one person. Where you are judged by you the Jury, sentenced by you the Judge, and in some non-changable way, the execution is carried out by you the Executioner. Usually the time for this court to convene is when you are about to die. I had about 100 typewritten pages, but lost it and didn't have a copy. The second novel was entitled "Naked Spirit" It is a comedy/romance novel about this guy that buys an old house and discovers there's a female ghost in it. She is still on earth because of a love vow she made with her husband before he went off to war in WWII. She vowed to wait for him til he returned from war, but she fell down the steps and killed herself before she got news of him being killed in action overseas. Since he didn't return, her love vow kept her here. The hero of the story falls in love with the ghost. Out of his love for her, he figures the best thing he can do is find out what happened to her husband and why he didn't come back. The title comes from what the ghost says when asked why she wouldn't become visible for him. She tells him that contrary to popular belief and what you may see in the movies, clothes do not go with the spirit. He replies "You mean you are naked?". To which she replies "Yes". Oh heck, gotta run. will finish this later.

To finish up, I have written 5 chapters of "Naked Spirit", but haven't worked on it in years. Maybe some day I will stop procrastinating and get off my lazy butt and finish it. I know exactally how I want it to go and how it will end. One of the reasons I haven't worked on it is that it's in wordstar format and windows doesn't reconize it. Anybody know how to convert a wordstar doccument to microsoft word 4.0?

Right now I am working on my own book. Its a romance story about a girl who was taken from her Noble parents, when she was very young, and raised as a peasant. She needs to make a decision about who she wants to be. It takes place in the medieval times of a faraway land.

This has to be one of the "oldest" chains I have seen resurrected! In all my time here, I was not aware of it! How wonderful! OK.... My book would be about grasping the "meaning" of our (my) life...how you thought it might be, how it IS, how you got there, how much of it you actually had a part in determining, how much of it just "happened", the contribution of strangers and mentors, the effect of time and place, the effect of what you've read or been forced into acknowledging...things like that! ...all in a little fictional novel, of course!
